At least you guys over there have that slim chance....what do you reckon the chances are of a similar find in the UK?

  4. As much chance as a chain of Haggis selling restaurants replacing McDonalds as the world's largest chain "restaurant!" :D

  12. RING-RING-RING (telephone)
    Barn Owner: Hello
RyanCDF: Hi. I am calling about that car in your barn. Thanks for FINALLY answering your phone.
Barn Owner: Yeah, my hearing aid batteries were dead ... finally got 'em replaced. But about the coupe ... sorry its gone.
RyanCDF: What do you mean it is gone??
BarnOwner: Well I was painting the barn-door and this guy in a big ol' faded trucks drives by, drives by again, and drives by a third time and finally stops.
    RyanCDF: ...... and?
BarnOwner: ... well he pulls out a roll of twenty dollar bills and offers me $120 to take the old car off my hands. Welp, since I never heard from you and the car has just been sitting there for fifty years and no one even offered me a dollar for it before I took him up on his offer.
    RyanCDF: ... but, but. .... I even rented a car-trailer.
BarnOwner: ... oh you didn't need a trailer. It started right up! He drove it out of the barn , got on his forklift and punched those forks right through the body and lifted it right into his truck ......

    ...... fade to black.

    Or even worse,
Barn Owner: Well I was painting the barn door and this guy with a black Ford Raptor and a trailer came by, said something about a gas monkey........

Ok, ya know you already have it built in your head... Hi-boy, full fendered? Chopped and/or channeled? Flattie, small block, blown hemi??? I know if it were me, I'd have it built over a dozen times by now...

I followed up an "old coupe" lead one time and it turned out to be a '33 3w. Bought it for $450. Well worth the time and effort.

Be patient. Takes time to dig a 20ft hole. And remember to put the lotion in the basket.

Get your ass off that phone and the computer, over to these people's house and camp on the doorstep till you find the guy. Despite what all the naysayers preach, it does happen. Case in point:
Summer 1956, cruising around Barnesville, GA, a really small town near the slightly larger town I still live in, in the stock "A" roadster I had driven home from Odessa, TX the previous Nov. A winter in an open roadster with no top or heater had me convinced I needed a closed car as a basis for my hot rod build.
Saw some guys parked in a gas station lot out and BSing. Obvious car guys with dual exhaust chrome tips showing, fenderskirts, etc. Stopped and talked with them a bit about their rides and then asked if any knew of an old Ford coupe or sedan somewhere that might be bought for cash.
One guy, who in later years became the mayor of Barnesville, said he knew of an old coupe in a barn at a black guys house a few miles out.
Followed him in his '50 Ford club coupe to a house on the outskirts of a tiny little village named Yatesville, and had a talk with the guy. Had to first convince him I was on the up and up as due to his livelihood being shine liquor (he had a couple customers while we were there), made him naturally the suspicious type. Told me he did have an old Ford coupe that he had a shop build for his son who was subsequently killed in a car wreck with somebody else in another car. Let the guy talk about his son and the dreams that were shattered with his death. He was very proud of him, first one in his family to graduate high school, had been set to go to college when killed, etc. sympathized with him and kinda got him to believing I might be the guy he wanted to have that car I still hadn't seen and didn't even know what it was yet.
Finally he turned on the lights in the barn and opened the door. There sat a blue '32 Ford 3wdw coupe, channeled the depth of frame, fenderless, and complete with a 24 stud flathead. Upholstery was red vinyl, not pleat & roll, but flat, and in good shape.
A week later I went back with 4 good tires and wheels, a battery, a can of gas, and $250. Installed wheels, tires, and gas, paid him the $250 and drove it home!
Several years later, I got in a financial bind and had to sell it to raise some cash, and still get depressed every time I think about it.
But the point is that you can't pass up leads, no matter where you get them.
    Act fast, act now.

Haaahaaaaaaaahaa! There have been some good ones already, but this killed me.

"It puts the lotion on its skin! You have no idea what kind of hell I can bring you!"

Anyway, hopefully it works out, cant wait to find out!

I was told that a deceased gentleman had a 32 roadster that was in a storage unit, his family wanted it sold. I went there with pockets filled with cash found this..... Passed on it, he wanted $2500 for the coupester. Took a picture with my grandson and moved on.

  28. Nah, I passed and dragged this home instead. Was thinking of "fixing it up someday" or at least keeping it for parts, but it had to get rid of it due to lack of room. Did keep the headlamp bezels for my wagon though.
