I'm a big chicken, and lazy when it comes to lots of repair before building a car. Seems it always costs way more time and money vs. finding a solid car. I try to find cars with as little rust as possible, then it's easier and cheaper to go forward.
This is my before. A pretty solid little car, with some minor rust repair in a couple areas, and surface rust on the outside:

Its not done yet but this is one of those father, son and grandson builds. We plan on turning it into an old skool wrecker, every kid loves a tow truck and lets face it were all big kids. So far we've gotten the frame pulled straight, front clip replaced and most of the rust repaired. 223384_1017807214232_9618_n.jpg

My first 5W was pretty rough or I thought it was until I look at some of the cars pictured here. This looks "mint " by comparison. :D

An older gentleman at a local power show brought his early 1900 White or Mack, I don't remember. His story was he started the truck after someone gave him the radiator shell. Every year he tried to add another part to the truck. The last time I saw it was about 5 years ago, at that time he had it about 80% done.

This old 1933 Ford race car body had been rolled on the track, most of the inner structure was cut out - but it was all I could find at the time. Took a lot of work, but I am happy with the way it turned out.

    Wow that thing looks sketchy!
The steering arm way too thin and weird 2 piece extension.
That crossmember is too and man the extension looks like it's gonna have diving board flex.
    Hopefully it's a mock-up.
