COE COE Picture thread (imported from main board)

  1. HOTFR8, I stole your wing idea, before I saw your avatar, great minds think alike. I want to make mine convertible so when towing my travel trailer it will push the air over the top and when bob-tailing having it like yours is just bad****!

    I think mine must make a big difference when towing a trailer with air flow etc. and fuel economy. Something you could also think about is a mount for a third brake light as I have small LED's hidden under my wing.

  5. I plan to run an old timey pair of stop lights with the word STOP in the lens on the back of my sleeper. I suppose someone will run into me while texting their buddy about the neat light they saw on the back of an old truck.

    That would look good. I still run the standard Peterbilt stop tail lights in the back of mine as well as the lights under the wing and on the rear bar. The more lights for them to see the less chance they will run into you (hopefully).

    My sleeper to fit the 48 Ford cab had the full chop channel and section to make it suit.

    All Ford sounds like a a great plan and stacks like those do need black smoke comin' out of 'em!!!!

    You want zero black smoke as that is wasted unburnt fuel and to be able to leave dead at the lights wondering what the hell was that. It is much more fun :);):)

    Things to be concerened about...
    1. Where the front tires are in the wheelwell. They should not be dead center, but slightly forwards by 1/2". It will look better...never behind center.

    Oops, Gotta go to breakfast, hopefully others will add in...

    Yep. It amazes me how people think thick clouds of black smoke are cool. In fact, it just means your diesel runs like*****! Tuned right they run clean and make a lot more power.

    ....Swapping the frame may cause****le issues. Check with your state. to see if you need an****emble vehicle****le...that may also cost higher yearly taxes.

    ...ride height might change due to the weight of the COE cab. Using a light cab and moving the engine to the back results in not enough weight to move the front suspension from where it sat on the donor vehicle. On my 41, I use 1/2 ton springs with a coil cut off.

    ....steering, always seems to be a problem. Your cab is wider and should not be as much of an issue. as the 38-47 Ford COE.

    ...brakes, hang the pedal when possible, you will find that it is far more comfortable than a under floor master.

    ...build thread, start a thread and share your project with us. We like to see what you other crazy COE guys do!

    ...and lastly, pizza, when is the doughboy going to give us all free pizza? HA!

    Here blowing to much smoke would mean getting put off the road and being told to fix it. Better to make lots of (Diesel) noise and no smoke as that makes them wonder what left them at the lights.

    Dondogarage, I would not use the econoline chassie. It is wider than a regular F series frame. You can use a super duty frame as they have straight axles and come in 16 and 17.5 wheel sizes. 16" wheels look a little small in the 53-56 COEs. They are a frt steer and wouldn`t take a lot to hook up. The engine setback may be problematic, there isn`t alot of room in the engine compartment. In fact the original engine sits under the floor halfway. Putting a six diesel uses alot of footroom realestate. On my 56 I`m staying with the original chassie and up grading the brakes and steering. Looking for a 7.3 turbo diesel (non powerstroke) to install with a clark 5spd and the 2spd rear.

    Just curious, Is the Econoline track width wider than a F-truck, or is it just the frame rails?

    Hi,
    I have a 51 Chevy COE. I hope to replace the straight 6 with a v8. Will a 350 block fit in the same spot as wher the 6 was. I do not want to put it behind the cab. Any one do this conversion?

    So I just bough this 42' chevy and it's way out of town and I need to go pick it up, I measured the wheel base and that will fit on my trailer but didn't think to measure the width of the front tires to see if it would go between the fenders of my trailer. Anyone know for a fact how wide the outside of the front tires are? It has 20" budd wheels

    I hired a tow truck to bring my 56 Mercury M700 home, I didn't want to risk anything, it was expensive (even with my employee discount) but the piece of mind and lack of stress was worth it.

  24. I don't know what "way out of town" means to you, however with my AAA Plus, I can get a tow for up to 100 miles.

    Not sure if they are the same width, but I pulled the outside of the duals off my 38 and hauled it from Puyallup to Calgary up and over the Continental divide, 800 miles, no problems

    It almost looks like the front tires are between the fenders on your trailer. good sign.

    Good idea to back it on. When I bought mine, the trailer width was no problem...then I got it home and discovered it was too tall for my garage door...! Now that was a problem. :)

    Backing it on is ok as long as you have enough tongue weight. Things can get ugly quick if they're tail heavy. Will also burn a lot more fuel towing it loaded backwards.
