RED is gonna look so good! And fitting for it's fire engine heritage.

Ya gonna have it pinstriped in gold? Are ya?...Are ya huh?...Are ya?

    I'm not excited...:D

    It's not much.

Fate is cruel. I took the body parts to the body shop to avoid doing the body work but the primer fell off which drove the price of the bodywork sky high and now I'm forced to do the body work myself to keep the price down. Ironic, huh? The good news is hopefully the red paint won't blow off while I'm tooling down the road at 50 mph. Also, I think the body is near ready. I've been filling tiny holes and imperfections for a week. The doors have been rebondoed and need only a final coat of primer. While things dried I sprayed some urethane clear on the hood shelves. Sorry about the crappy pictures I left the camera at home and had to use my phone. I figured you guys would kill me if I didn't post something soon.

Too late, I spent the money on new clear coat for the hood shelves. :) The crummy urethane I used on the hood shelves never dried. I used Minwax spar varnish. After spraying it on and waiting 4 days for it to dry without success I found out online it takes 30 days to fully dry. I can't wait that long. I used a small hand plane to take the stuff off. It was like chewing gum. Nasty stuff. I went down to the paint shop and bought some two part clear coat. It'll dry in 2 hours or less. Chemicals and I don't get along apparently.

    Alien in the mirror.

Maybe everything will be ready to paint this week. I covered the speedster with a big blue tarp then gave the body and doors a final coat of primer. After that I shot a coat of real two part clear on the hood shelves. I guess I'll hit it all with some 600 grit before I take to the body shop. Yes, the Home of Speedster is for sale but only because I need more room. Ya think? I doubt I'll get any takers anytime soon. Maybe after the bypass is complete. Neil says he'll sell the shop next door. I'd like to buy it but who's got 168K? Hang in there, we're getting close!

Q: Just how long does it take to paint a giant speedster?

A: It might take all summer! Damn, I hope not! Well, I finally got the body and doors over to Allen's P&B. But I had to pick up the cowl to finish up the body work on it. I hope to have most of that work completed today. Stop laughing! We're getting close, I tell you! Damn close! Any day now you're going to look here and see nothing but RED! Notice all these exclamation points? That ought to tell you something. Okay, now leave me to my work. I've got bondo dust to inhale!

Bondo???? The paint is taking so long I thought you had changed your mind and decided to "metal finish" the speedster before the paint was applied;) I can't wait to see the Speedster painted and together.

Yeah, they don't make it easy these days... If you click on 'printer version' you can easily get to the images...but they're small. Here's a couple of the big ones obtained by complex means:

Paperdog, tell us about your Seagrave. BTW, I took the cowl to the body shop. Everything rests in their hands now.

"I took the cowl to the body shop. Everything rests in their hands now." Really? Did I miss the building of the steering wheel? You know, the steering wheel that you tried to buy, failed, were publicly admonished, repented, and promised us you would build a steering wheel suitable for the Speedster's "station" in life. If you can't produce a picture of this hand built masterpiece then the statement "I took the cowl to the body shop. Everything rests in their hands now" is not true. I won't go so far as to call you a liar and a slacker since you do more in one day than I have done in the last month, but.... come on Jerry, just because we "gave you a pass" on the paint doesn't mean there isn't more things to do. In addition to all the Speedster details you need to address, have you thought about your next project? How are you going to entertain all of your readers after the Speedster is done? We are expecting "great things" from you to entertain us and fill our idle and unproductive time. If you don't start something suitable and worthy of our attention, then I am going to suggest that each of the readers of this thread start sending you some of their projects to finish. I could get the ball rolling with a 1959 Chevy step van that needs some attention... should I send the step van to your home address or to your new shop? ;)

I'll never forget the words someone scratched above the urinal in my junior high school. "The future of America is in your hands."

Well, not everything rests in the body shop's hands just the paint. I did paint all the fender braces today and speaking of paint I had my pay-by-the-day handymen paint my locomotive which was looking a little shabby. (The tenants were complaining) To bad speedster painting isn't as easy. Yes, yes, I'm getting around to that steering wheel. But don't expect too much. I'm about as good a woodworker as I am a bodyman.

hmm I d be trying to find some track and restore the locomotive lol

  24. Oh I have access to plenty of track, the loci is not for sale, and they have pulled parts off of it for years for the other two switchers. I'm just happy to be making it usefull again even in a slightly different form.
