Quote from my Insurance company: "This is considered a KIT CAR not an original 1931 Ford coupe so let me look into this a little furthur"

trying not to take it as an insult... trying.... trying....

Give the guys over at Hea**** Cl***ic a call, they insured our 29 Coupe without any issues at all. Except I have to turn in a mileage log every year since I don't have an odometer in the car and the policy is a low miles one.

Heck they covered both these cars, stated value for $270 a year.

    part two; Their definition:
    413. KIT CARS AND REPLICA AUTOMOBILES - REGULAR USE<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:eek:ffice:eek:ffice" /><o:p></o:p>
    <o:p> </o:p>
Kit cars are vehicles usually constructed of fibergl*** and ***embled on a ch***is (or modified ch***is) of another regular production car. A replica is a reproduction of an antique or cl***ic automobile. Vehicles of this type which are regularly used for personal, pleasure, and business purposes shall be cl***ified and rated in accordance with the regular rules and rates applying to the type of vehicle insured. The model year of the ch***is will determine the model year of the vehicle.<o:p></o:p>
I've told them aside from the radiator nothing is newer than 1950, the parts are all Ford parts and the only major difference is that the fenders have been taken off and the engine is only 60 years old and not 80...

    Grundy!?

    part three:

    my response:
Sherrie, nothing on the car is a reproduction or fibergl***, they are all original Ford parts, the only difference between this car and an original is that the fenders have been unbolted and the engine is now only 60 years old, not 80 years old&#8230;.<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:eek:ffice:eek:ffice" /><o:p></o:p>

    Sherrie's:
So a Kit Car is fibergl*** ch***is but a REPLICA is a production of an antique so I would consider this a REPLICA&#8230;Still would be the same rate as KIT CAR I believe ..Do you have receipts? They must have not come through on last email

    Whoa....

By the way I have Hagerty now for my 50 shoebox and I like them better then Grundy.

  12. Each insurance company has their own set of cl***ifications and rules, if you don't want to be called a "kit car" find a different company. My company has a problem with a 7 digit serial number, but a picture of the car and a copy of the ***le in their files took care of that. I pay $90 for 6 months of liability.

As long as they insure it at a reasonable rate, who cares what they cl***ify it as?

I believe in M***. if it's a kit car you have to get a m***. ***igned VIN.
Mine is ***led and registered as a 1930 Ford.
When I got my last inspection one of the questions on the computer screen was "is it a kit car," my answer was NO !!

I just like the extra benefits that Hagerty offers more. Like the flatbed towing and roadside help. But it is up to you. Just look at both and decide.<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:eek:ffice:eek:ffice" /><o:p></o:p>

yup! yah got me that flathead is one of those plastic ones, the REAL motor is in the back!

    :)

The thing that worries me about the kit car designation comes when and if the car is ever in an accident and I insist on FORD parts...

...I could just run with liability I guess...

find an agent that knows what they`re talking about. The big name giants usually don't want to mess with speciality cars...Go with hagerty or Grundy; they know the difference...

    Good luck!

Hell no liability does not cover your car and the damage it does to someone elses property.

I have had Hagerty for many years and several cars. Never had any problems or BS. They get it. The "Good Hands, Good Neighbor" companies don't.

Usually when we say liability we mean liable for both personal injury and property damage --

as opposed to "collision" which covers damage to your own vehicle.

I only have liability on my rod and my DD.

    If I hit a tree I lose...
If someone else hits me, their insurance company pays me.

In my opinion, there only 3 companies when it comes to dealing with specialty cars. Grundy, Hagerty and Chrome. While a chrome AGENT did screw me, your dealings may be different.

Minimum liability covers the minimum expense of the other persons property and medical. You would have to pay to get your car fixed. And there are still a LOT of people riding around uninsured.

I have liability on my '79 cutl***. If it gets destroyed, I'll just buy another.

But consider this. With rising cost of things, especially medical expenses, the $50,000 minimum goes quickly and you'll be responsible for the remainder. It's a risk, I'll take on my daily.

I have full insurance on my T Bucket with agreed value on it. It covers me when the other guy doesn't have insurance as well. It pays $100,000 for property AND medical. If it goes over that, I'll move to Canada and start the revolution. Who's with me!?:D
