  6. The Pearce Thames was Not a six cylinder. It was an injected small block, although I heard it had an Olds in it at one time as well

I seen the two collectors on one side by the front wheel and none on the other side, and the class is either H/G, or N/G not sure.. But I did see it with a V-8 in it too, maybe one before the other?!?!?!?!

Hey Scott, do you know what the extra lever is with the white knob on it is?

  9. Yeah, i have pictures of it that clearly show a collector on the right and left side, and I've seen the V-8 under the hood and A/Gas on the side. Maybe they originally put a six in it and got bored?

That's what I thought it was for staging, (one foot on the gas, and one on the clutch)?!?!?! Unless he used it for the clutch at launch???

In reference too post 660, theres a handle linked to the brake pedal the knob is on.

The lever in question was a modified big truck gearshift lever heated & bent & attached to the brake pedal to serve as a line lock. Cotton & Jim were self professed "po boys" but Cotton preferred this to the standard line lock & also had the same setup installed in the Chevy 11 Super Stocker he also drove the year they were trying to win the Grace Cup $ 25k the best I remember.

Close enough papastoy. The knob was also actually weighted so that the centrifugal force of leaving the line made the lever move backwards and released the brakes.

Cotton Perry & Jim Headrick at Brainerd Optimist Dragstrip. The white car was an ex-super stocker that they bought from Charlie Lee of Sparta, Tennessee. The white SS/L Chevy II that Cotton drove for a while was a different car owned by Jim Danuels of Chattanooga, Tennessee. That car was sold to Allan Patterson.
