I scanned the entire thread to see if you had installed a late TF or something since you were trying to use an LA starter but it appears you still have ca. 54 trans, so....no interchange on starters...different style of mounting and bolting. If you spotted something in the HemiTech indicating that an LA would work please point it out so that some 'corrective' action can be applied......... ...until 1960 when the 130 started, but then the 426 came back with the 143 and the 172 and then the 143 came back again around 2000.... .
You are correct I mustve miss understood about the la starter. I do have the orig trans in. I took the starter out today and we bench tested it again. Worked fine so I cleaned up all bolt connections and wire connections. Thru it back in and it started fine so we will see how long this lasts. I need to find a good supplier for a rebuild kit for it. Thanks Eric
So far the starter is holding up fine. I found some bumpers for the front and back. They arent perfect but I found them on here and getting both for $50! Has anyone ever replaced the exhaust manifolds on one of these cars? Is there room to take them off with the motor in the car or does it need to come out at all. Also has anyone ever put headers on? If so which ones? (shorty or long tube)(part numbers?) Thanks Eric
George, when i asked "does it need to come out at all" I was referring to the motor as in does the motor have to come out of the car in order to take the exhaust manifolds off.
Don't recall if the manifolds are mounted with studs and nuts or if they are bolted on. If studs and nuts, then you may have to lift the engine to get clearance. If bolted on, there may be enough clearance. In any event, I would think lifting the engine would get the manifolds off without removing engine.
