  1. Not a ***** thread, more of a disappointment thread. Anyway I've been wanting a set of Torq Thrusts for a long long time. I p***ed on a few sets that I should have bought. Still regret that. Very hard to find any back here. I've posted wanted ads on the HAMB with no results. So the other day I was on ebay, the swapmeets here ****, so ebay is my best bet. I find a set of Ansen 14X6 Chevy pattern for $100.00 buy it now. I buy them, and find a set of 15X7 Chevy pattern Americans, no buy it now. The seller won't put a buy it now on them, so I bid. anyway I get out bid. they go for some crazy price. So I buy 2 new 15X7 American Torq Thrusts on ebay for less money. The sellers not very far from me. They arrive the same day as the other 2 wheels. Happy day. Both sets of wheels look great. I unpack the new ones, and look them over, very nice. I turn them over, and cast in them is "MADE IN CHINA" What a bummer. And the hole pattern for the center cap is a different bolt circle than the old wheels, so old caps won't fit the new wheels, and new caps won't fit the old wheels. WTF? I'm going to fill the holes on the new set and drill them to the same bolt circle as the old set. Anyway I'm happy I have my wheels. Just not happy about the "MADE IN CHINA" thing. Dean

An adapter plate is being made to use either pattern center cap on either wheel.
When ARE re-introduced the Torque-Thrust Ds, the center cap pattern was changed (for some weird-***ed reason).
A wheel vender is having adapter plates made. I can't find his card at the moment but he is at ALL of the najor swsap meets on the East Coast. When I find his card I'll update this post.

The amazing part is having to pay American prices for Chinese wheels, definitely not p***ing the perceived savings on to the customer. Wonder what the real cost difference is between overseas and made in USA.

I bought a set of American Salt Flat wheels 4 years ago from Summit. I was told I would have them in Australia in 4 days. They got there in the 4 days but when I read the shipping do***ents I saw they came from China. Mine aren't marked "made in China" but the boxes had "Made in USA" on them.
I look now and have found a lot of US suppliers are shipping from China.
I've got to say there has been no problems with any of these parts.

Yeah that's old news. I bought a couple of their TTO wheels several years ago that were made in China. They are actually a decent set of wheels though. Just about all of the wheel manufacturers’ are going off shore for production now with a few exceptions. Currently I'm running American made Real Rodders wheels

  11. Real Rodder Wheels are great! It's just most folks will not pay the USA made price, far easier to buy Chinese and join the piss and moan club! I see this every day and the sad part is, there is a small percentage of customers who would and will pay for the American part but the majority will piss and moan and want the Chinese counterpart because they are stretching their union USA retirement check far as they can, see the irony? I know the haters will come forth here but remember, those folks are running down our country and I believe David Allen Cole has a song for you, :D !!

I was disappointed, too, when I saw that my new Torque-thrust wheels were China made. The quality is great, though. I've given all 4 wheels a pounding on my 9-second drag car for a couple of years now and they're holding up well.

  13. to fill the center cap holes I get aluminum screws to fill the holes
then I redrill and tap the holes

........Not trying to hijack this thread, but does anyone know how David Allan Coe is doing? I had heard that he was in a pretty bad accident a few months ago in Florida. Now back to your regularly scheduled programming.:D

No doubt! Somehow plenty of Enkei wheels are made in Indiana across the street from our plant, and are not that expensive. I'm sure ARE didn't drop prices at all when they did that.

Change the 'a' to an 'o' and you can say they were made in Chino, Calif.

Part of the corporate world . . . payroll goes down.

The only things I would actually buy from china would be from american companies that at least have a couple of QC guys over there or inspect/finish machine them here.

If you buy something that is 100% made in china and carries no "supervision" its always junk. Proform was really bad about this when they first came out, no idea now. Contrast that with Redhorse performance and their parts look better than American made ones despite being made in China . . .

  20. I believe the purpose of Made in China is to give the seller a
bigger profit...not so much a lower price for buyers.

Sad yes. And it's not just aftermarket. Just put a set of factory 2012 take-off wheels on the son's OT DD, you guessed it, made in freakin' China.

(apologies for the OT content, but it is related IMO)

Just bought a set of Stewart Warner gauges, was dissapointed to see "Mexico"...but not as dissapointed as if I'd seen "China". Should have asked first I guess, usually pretty careful about what the latest suit's scam is. Nice to have American parts in a Hot Rod.

Those repop Americans don't have the same quality as the originals. You can spot the repops a mile away. Those wheels made in China are missing one of the lathe cuts that the vintage torq thrust have. The vintage caps not fitting the repop wheels is nothing new, that has been going on for at least 20 years. In the 80s they made the daisey wheels in Brazil. The chrome would peel off the spokes. The only way to get the real deal is to find some vintage wheels. Are those aluminum repops made in China heat treated? The vintage wheels are.

The boxes were made in USA.

Sometimes its our Gov that forces the overseas move just to maintain a profit. Case in point---Cabinet shop next door, worker cuts his hand loading a large cabinet by himself without asking for help. Files Workers Comp claim and now the owner (4 man,1800sqft) has to pay an extra 2g a month W/C insurance that never goes away.

To me when an iconic American company and product like American Racing takes thier manufacturing over seas they are no longer "American Raciging". At that point they are just a few pencil pushers in the US making orders from and overseas manufacturing.

True, it's really bad when a company like Visegrip gets sold to the suit / vultures and, even though it's still making money, they go "offshore" to make even more. (The China Queen guy sounds like he's doing his part just fine)
