I was the Lone Ranger at work until I helped get my buddy Shaun hired so I would have someone cool to park next to.

I am fortunate that I use a company vehicle but let me tell you I drive all over the bay daily and you are right about the crap you see every day. 880 some days feels like a warzone with all the crap that falls out of some of the trucks, for instance a milk carton full of scrap steel...... all I could think of was thank got this is not my truck.
I will say though my job title is changing slightly right now and I am hoping to get to join the club the drive from woodland to dixon can be pretty nice and Im hoping I will get to start leaving the company truck at the shop. It would make my days much more enjoyable.

Some things to consider, though when driving a hot rod to work.

    1) Your boss will start thinking he's paying you plenty since you can afford a completely unnecessary expense like a fancy hot rod. You may have a harder time getting a raise in the future.
    2) your boss may think of you as being the irresponsible type. This would probably be the sort of thing you might encounter with the corporate crowd. They can be some real monkey-suit goons.

I say... consider what type place you are working for, and whether or not you have to grovel for a raise or advancement before bringing in a fancy hot rod to the parking lot. It doesn't always make friends, and it doesn't always make for a desirable outcome. Think ahead.

Some folks work union jobs, and there might be no real bearing on the issue of raises. others work for hot-rod or fabrication places, and it's considered 'cool". Not everyone is in the same boat.

  12. I had to drive mine to work every day, it was the only car I had at the time. It was never that far from the Live in Accom (Barracks) to the Unit, the only problem was my car had to live out in the car park with all the 'normal' cars.

  17. Back when I owned my '40 Plymouth coupe, it was my only car, so it got driven the 25-mile roundtrip into downtown KC to my first "real" job as an electronics engineer, rain, sun, snow, whatever. Sorry, no pictures. That was back in '78! I wish I had a job to drive to now...

My 36 is the only car I drive unless I'm going camping or something. I drive it to work every day.

Everyone has their leisure. It's no different than the assembly line "cog" that blows his paycheck at the local bar or gambles it away every payday.

If anything, bosses see that you have a constructive hobby. The "suits" blow their money playing golf and buying expensive sports cars. What's the difference?

I would think that bosses seeing you come in in your hot rod with a big smile on your face, they see you're a happy worker. A happy worker is a productive worker. My $0.02 :)

This is a pic of my car in front of the place I worked in 1954.
Drove to work 5 days a week and drag and road raced on weekends.
Drove it to Bonneville, raced it (3rd in class 136.77) and made it home that year also.

I've been riding my Schwinn mostly since the weather turned nice, but here's a shot of my '61 at work on Wednesday right before I removed the steering column and clutch linkage - courtesy of somebody else's Instagram (kinda flattering).
