So this isnt as cool as anything that's already been posted in this thread, and more than likely isnt even period correct, but it is mine, and is where the "racing" portion of my screen name comes from. I've raced since 1992, and bought this car in 2000. The car has a different motor/trans in it now than when this pic was taken, and is a touch quicker, but the car is still the same (except for no wheelie bars and no goofy stickers behind the rear tires).

Here's a 1963 West Coast match-up between two of our local heavy hitters. I believe that this race took place just less than a month before San Gabriel closed for good.

Dave Simerly had one of the hardest running 413 cars in this area but he was out-muscled on this occasion by Earl's Z11 Impala. Note the hood scoops on the Mopar. The position on the "Drag News List" was equal in prestige to any status offered by NHRA around this area. They were, however, somewhat lax in terms of rules when it came to Stockers.

I concur. Its almost like you are there. The snap crackle and pop of the engines being mixed by the announcer calling off the pair with the murmur of the crowd in the background.

Near side is still legging it. Note that butterfly's are still open, wheels distorted and no pilot chute even though he has long since cleared the traps.

Looking for a set of these Early Halibrand Anglia Spindle mount sprints for the Kenz and Leslie Mercury Cyclone funny Car Im Restoring. I believe they are the second version made in 65 and 66. I have a set of the version after this one that was most popular into the seventies that I would be willing to trade if needed. Let me know if anyone has a set for sale thanks Ken Message me on the side for contact info.

Got this in the mail this morning. Don McCain told me once about how Mel Burns Ford sponsored two drag cars. A Shelby Mustang and my 65 Fairlane. He said one time both cars had to run each other in the finals. He was driving the Mustang and Bill Beck was driving the Fairlane. He said the Mustang easily won the race. This was sometime in late 66 or 67. Somehow my buddy Digger found a picture of the race and sent it to me. Wish it showed a little more of my car but still cool as hell.

Looks like the intake may have been repossessed by the guys wearing the white tee shirts in the background.
