I love the days gone by when it was important to be photographed with your car and it actually.... meant something ........ great stuff.

There were a few reasons for cancelling the XB-70. Cost and the development of the SR-71 to name two. But seems the primary reason was, in fact, enemy missile attack...especially after Gary Powers was shot down in the U2. Flying at 85,000'+ the USA thought it could not be reached from a ground missile.
But what an amazing design! I wanted to see this in the Air Force inventory.

Racing car owned by Groux Motor Sales, Pure Oil dealer at Martins Ferry, Ohio, which won races this summer (1934) at Wheeling and Sharon, Pa. The car, using Pure Oil Products and caring Pure Oil Seals, was driven by W. J. Kulabonisk with Jim Hogl, mechanic. The car is a Frontey Ford, 16 valve, with double overhead cams. In the picture are Driver Kulabonisk and Manager Fred Groux.

Exclusive exhibit of Brewster Automobiles, Oyster Bay, New York. Car in first picture looks like a 1951 Nash-Healey Panelcraft roadster with no hood scoop, the second shows Pegaso berlinettas and a Plexiglas-enhanced display chassis exposing quad overhead cam alloy V8 with desmodromic valves and dry sump lubrication, 5 speed transaxle, torsion bar suspension and deDion rear end with inboard brakes. Featured car is Pegaso Z102 called Tea Rose for its iridescent yellow paint that 'bloomed' as it grew paler from rocker panel to roof. Although two-thirds of the appoximately 86 cars Pegaso built between 1951 and 1958 were bodied by Touring and Saoutchik, two of these 'cupola' cars were apparently designed and built in-house by the state-owned Spanish truck and bus maker, attempting to invade the super luxury sports cars market with former Alfa Romeo engineer Wilfredo Ricart in charge. This particular $29,000 dream was bought off the stand by Generalissimo Rafael Trujillo of the Dominican Republic and widely known as El Dominicano thereafter. Fred Pittera's 1st World Motor Sports Show, Madison Square Garden, 2/53.

Thank you for the additional information, I think my memory is starting to slip away from me!! Aww well......:D
The XB-70 is still an incredible aircraft, I could just imagine 5 or 6 of them flying in formation! That would have truly rattled the whole world not just a small area below!!

During the photo shoot that ended in disaster, in formation with the F-104.

To promote Silver Springs, Florida’s crystal clear waters, Bruce Mozert took a series of creative underwater photos in 1938, depicting scenes of leisure one can partake in with no oxygen required.

The XB-70 seemed to way to go for 1950s planning, but can you imagine the radar signature from it! The last of the big bomber prototypes. Rapid technology advancement (or Lockheed's genius) provided the solution with the SR-71.
