Am I nuts or just getting board. I've been considering putting my 32 up for trade towards a 57, even though every show/cruise I go to has like 20 57's and maybe 1 or 2 32's that are usually fiberglass. Guess I'm thinking of the easy way out, the more I look at the 32 I think to myself it will never get done? 57 looks comfortable and would fit my whole family. Guess I'm just fishing for opinions. I dont have any trades lined up or anything...just a thought. Am I crazy in thinking I could get a decent roller 57?!?!

It's all a matter of what you'll be happier with.

Life is brief, the '32 is nice to dream about, build and drive.
Depends what your days allow. There's two years in time reqd, in what sits there.
Then there's the value of time building, and driving, as family members enjoy it with you.

A project is a project...if you don't think you will finish the '32 what makes you think you will finish the '57? Sorry to sound so blunt, but I'm just sayin. Just pick up a wrench and start where you stand and start building my friend, start building, you can do it!

Only if you trade your basket case for a FINISHED '57.

If you can't get the relatively simple 32 done, you won't finish a '57 either.

No, I don't thin you are crazy. Granted, I am a fan of customs more than I am of rods, though I certainly appreciate both. I don't think a lot of the hot rod guys realize just how awesome it is driving a full-size custom car. They're roomy, comfortable on long trips, their size creates a certain presence that commands attention and awe, and they're largely a blank canvas for many customizing tricks that I don't think transfer over to rods as well. Not to mention that they fit great, big ol' engines and MOVE. It's great when everybody piles into your car, you fill the trunk up with chairs, coolers and a grill and you head off to a show. Fun for everyone! So do I think you're crazy? No not at all. Different cars for different purposes. But that 32 is nice as hell, and much rarer than most 57 Chevs. As such, your return should equal the value of that 32. That should get you a very nice 2 door sedan, or a driver of a 2 door hardtop.

That's why I'm wanting something that's a little more complete to start with. I have this to keep me busy for now, but I've had it for 10 yrs...starting to get bored with it too. [IMG] [IMG]

    I traded this:

    For this:

..... and haven't regretted it at all.

I had a choice: Work on the 32 for two more years and then have something that won't haul the whole family.... or trade that project for an interstate eater that hauls everyone and is ready to hit the road now.

That being said - I wish like hell I had a '57 I could swap you!!!!

You're crazy, if you're driving and pretending to enjoy your second choice.

  16. I don't think you're crazy. I've been thinking about selling my old pickup for a GTO project for a while now. Go for it.

I know the bored feeling, but I would stick to the 32. Lots of 57's out there and you can't beat a deuce coupe!

There's a lot to be said about driving some thing thats a safe and comfortable highway cruiser rather then get your brains beat out.

  21. The deuce is nice, but won't be ready for 2-3 years. Even finished, it won't haul your family. How old are your kids? At about 13 they won't want to go anywhere with their parents unless they like the car thing. Have to imprint them early. We had tons of fun travelling with the kids in our old cars.

I don't think most people, with a 57 would trade with you. The tri-5s are worth more money than the 32. And alot more people like the tri-5s, better than an older deuce. Not that I do, but I have seen people around here try that kind of trade with no luck.

  23. Forgot to mention I was building a T bucket when my 2nd kid came along. Sold it, bought a running 55 Nomad family hauler and pulled our tent trailer with it. Good times. Camped at lakes on the way to an event with the kids, had the car event on the weekend, camped again on the way home. win/win

    I would keep the '32.

If you do sell the '32 for a '57, DON'T! buy a Chevy.

What's the condition of the '57? Can you describe it, or post some pictures? I can't determine your level of craziness without knowing what it is you might be trading for. My couch is empty, have a seat.....! :)

I would go for a ride with the deuce, leaving my family at home, later I stop for a while to visit ... In my country there are no body reproductions fiber or steel, patch panels or parts of these cars. Model B and Model 18 cars are very rare. I love Ford cars but the Deuce is an icon, so I think you should keep it or at least change it for another deuce ...

There isn't one at the moment, I was just pondering the thought of doing it.
