Filling holes in sheet metal - 3/8", 1/2", 3/4" 1" - where can you get steel sheet metal 20 gage or ? knock-outs or plugs for welding the holes? Sheet metal punches make small plugs unless you buy a huge press... anyone sell them? Thanks for the help
That won't be any help; the 'trade sizes' we use aren't actually that dimension; "1/2" is actually 7/8" OD, "3/4" is 1 1/8", etc. All are odd sizes.... If you need a bunch and have a drill press, nail a piece of sheetmetal to a board, clamp the board down on the press table, and use 3/16" larger hole saws than the plug size you need without the pilot bit to make some. The ID of the saw will very close.
Yes, I recall reading it on hamb...not too long ago? It was sort of a kit, with a bunch of sizes mixed in. Maybe do a search here.
Bring me over the material and a 6-pack of rootbeer and you can use my rotex punch I am in Gardena at the end of the 91fwy, I will be here till 6 1-310-768-3163
Geez you have to be kidding. I can see a beginner being scared to make a patch panel or new fender but not able to cut out a 1/2" circle? It doesn't even have to be accurate, the MIG will fill in the gaps. Just back it up with copper so the weld won't stick.
Any sheetmetal fabrication shop in your area with a punch or a laser will have scrap tubs full of them, the laser will likely have a pierce hole, find a shop still uses a punch press on steel
i like to cut them out with tin snips, and leave the last little bit connected to the scrap to use as a handle.
No, we use trade sizes for conduit, so 7/8", 1 1/8", 1 3/8", etc. And electrical KO seals are either snap in, or three piece with a back strap and center screw. Worthless if you want to end up with clean smooth surface after welding.
