How to Hide money from Yourself

Any proven tips on how to hide money for project parts? I always seam to rob whatever gets put aside for household things that pop up out of nowere, like roofing shingles last month. Bob

I hide little chunks of money in a separate little prepaid debit card account that my bank offers. It's strictly for hot rod and travel, other emergency savings goes elsewhere. Budgeting is a *****, but necessary.

when you see a smoking deal on the front axle that you really don't need at that moment of the build...buy it anyways.

Then the axle will be there when you need one.

this works good on super great deals, because you are spending less in the long run, versus buying each part when you have to have it right now.

Give your money to a trusted friend and use them like a Lay A Way program keep giving them money until you have enough to get the part you need.

You don't have to hide it from yourself, just don't let the Misses know you have it. Another tip is to not care about silly things like the power bill or minor water leaks.

I have trouble like that, too. Had a chunk of money saved for an intake for my roadster's Olds engine...Up popped a '37 Ford V860 Tube axle! Then a nice dropped '32 I-Beam!
Next one was a Model A 'Zimmer', 3-1/2" Dago... They came up, I grabbed 'em!

One more V8 60 tube, (Turlock, with round spindles & '40 brakes: $15!!!)

Saving up once more, then Dennis Moomjean was selling everything...I said it was a shame he sold his 'T' bucket with the V8 60 tube.

He said he still had the N.O.S. one he got when the Ford dealer sold off all the old stock from upstairs. (it was standing up behind the door, just as you entered the loft area...Tag still on it...Dennis sold it to me for a friend's deal!

Still saving up for that 2X4 low profile intake... LOL But I'm 'axle poor' now...

It is real simple! "Needs", you borrow money for, "wants" you only buy with cash you have saved. If you don't have money saved you don't buy the "wants", because you have to make the payments for the "needs". If you want more "wants" work harder, longer, extra jobs, etc. these "wants' then become more valuable to you, because you went the extra mile for them. I told you it was simple!

I used to hide money from myself when I was in service so I wouldn't spend it all on booze and women. I was looking through an old storage chest about 10 years ago and found my old dress overcoat from service. Haven't worn it since 1970 and in the inside pocket I found a $20 bill. It would have been worth a lot more back then. Such a good hiding place that I never did that anymore.

I've had new builds just shy of paint and interior, when a need in the family came up,..... The need was taken care of,...... And I would start a new project,.... Then as the new build was reaching completion, More needs...... And around and around we go.....

It can be really frustrating in one respect,... But when you foe-fill a need in your family's life it's all worth while,...... On to the next project........

If your a family man,... It's our Job,.... It's what we do.

Look after your main ***ests 1st. Wife, kids, parents, house etc THEN look after you car. So many people get the order of that wrong and end up with a divorce or dysfunctional family, both of which can cost more than the car. This is a hobby - keep that in mind.

Here's an off-the-wall idea:

Find a big *** wine bottle made out of dark dark gl***. Something you can't fit your fingers into.

Jamb your spare bills into it until you can't fit any more into it.

Start another one or smash it open, count your savings and go spend it on ******s and blow...

When i first got married I got $20 a week for car parts and could only buy something when I had saved the cash. I hid my money inside the paper towel roll in the garage. I almost had enough for sway bars when my wife spilled something in the garage, cleaned it up with the last of the paper towels, and threw away the core just as the garbage man was coming by.

This has the potential to become an entertaining thread. Some real sage advice to be found here. This one ^^^ just might be the best, sort of a corrollary to the theory that you'll aways find a way to make ends meet, so what the hell, get the Sombreros . . . fast forward three years and lo and behold, still have the house, kids are OK, braces are paid for, took that Disney cruise, etc.

There is a potential problem i putting money is something disposable, wine bottles get thrown out like paper towels, etc. Go get a locking cash box, cut a slot in the top, mount it in your project or somewhere near by. Give the key to a friend or relative who supports your habit. Put your spare change, dollars, and what ever in it. when you need something real bad have your sponsor come over, take out what you need, lock it back up and start again.

Now I know that that little box will always suc***b to tools ad torches, but the exercise is about building saving/spending discipline. Hot rod money and household money should not be Peter and Paul accounts unless its an emergency. I like that new ING commercial where the retirement money is a different color. You can do that when it's in your wallet, when you get your money, mark it with a highlighter. Make George, Abraham, and Alex blue or yellow or orange, just to make you think before pulling one out for a 6 pack.................

That's what ****s though. You spend all your money on screaming deals, but it puts you behind on progress because you don't have any money to spend on what you are currently in to. Happens to me all the time, seems like I can never get anything done.
