Would you consider putting one of these cams in a flatty for a full size car (Merc) or are they too rumplty rumpity. It's a 304 with edelbrock 64cc heads
    and twin deuces

I would highly recommend that cam. After recently building an engine with that cam I will probably use that cam in every flathead I build from now on. -Mike

Agreed. If its a big cubic inch engine, its not for a 239 in a heavy car.

    Thanks for replying
I had read this on speedways website and was having second thoughts

"Not for the faint of heart, and not for the street! This famous Isky 400 Jr. grind camshaft is full race, competition only and is recommended only for the experienced flathead V8 racer."

Hi Neil, if your "ride" is in on the "heavy" side I would say back it down to the "88", you'll be much happier for all around driving and cruising!

If your "ride" is a lightweight, then go larger!

Even though you have the "inches", the 244* @ .050" number is too big for a "driver", better for a race-oriented build. The "88" at 224* @ .050" is a better choice in my opinion!

    Thanks, Gary in N.Y.

P.S. If you click on the link below here you will find some interesting reading on a full size Merc convertible. Customer is extremely happy with the overall performance. It is not a "trailer-queen", it gets driven all around the country!

Throw 4 degrees advance on the timing events and fly with it.
    What rear gear?

This is something I have been trying to decide on. Will an 88 in a 52 Merc motor, .030" overbore, Offy heads, flat tops and a 3x2 with 97's work ok on the street in a 52 Crestline with a 3 speed w/OD?
