History Classic Indy roadsters: Most beautiful oval racers ever?

I went to Indy in I believe 1962. Still have the flag that I purchased there. What an experience to say nothing of the wild town the night before. I used to always either hear or watch the Indy races but I got totally turned off when they changed the rules. What kind of race is it when all the cars are Hondas.

 

Certainly not the prettiest, but the Novi sound made up for it...(1963, Art Malone & Jim Hurtubise)

 

Evolution my man, just like the Model A to the 1932 V8. Thats what makes this a great place to live. Racing was never meant to be last years technology.

understood, but you really shouldn't post them on a thread about a specific style of car when the ones you posted fall outside those boundaries. you might as well had posted a tuner car in the hotrods of the 40's thread.

Just got back from the Miller's in Milwaukee with my 7 year old daughter who is a car nut. Wanted to relax a bit so I hit the HAMB and this thread was on the front page. Just wanted to give a big thanks to Mac Miller for generously offering to let my daughter sit in the Boyle Valve Special. It made her day. This was my first time at this event, and other than a trip to the Indy museum in my early teens 30 plus years ago, my first real exposure to these incredible cars. A vintage racer or replica is now at the top of my wish list. The sound these cars make can not be accurately described. At least by me. Can't believe it took me this long to make it to the event. Seeing the cars run on the historic Milwaukee Mile makes me wish I had been around for the glory days of these cars. My daughter loved them too

I have some pics on my phone but can't post them directly for some reason. If no one else covers the meet today I'll work at getting some pics up.

 

Are the bodies (on something like this one for example, and especially) fiberglass, aluminum, steel, a combo, or ... ?

 

Whats not to love about these state of the art racers in there day! Cool max.

 

The "old school" builders like Epperly, Kuzma, Levosky and Ewing used aluminum and sometimes magnesium for the bodies.

Thanks for the link, Mac. Am I the only idiot that never knew the tires were made that way? I always just thought they were used and had scrubbed the tread off the inside. Guess I never really thought about it enough.

 

And look at all that turned gold leaf on the nose and the lettering! Must have been a dazzler on a sunny day. You just can't get quite the same look with vinyl.
