Made the tooling for the swage at the top of the doorskin today. I also got news today that I can have part of the building next door so I will be able to get the T in the workshop, it should be easier to progress then.

I should be able to do some metalshaping classes as well if there is enough interest.

    That's great, David!
I hope you have pictures up soon of the tooling and the new home for the T project.
I'm crossing my fingers to have a spot to work on my T soon.
Man... I wish I could sit in on a class. Your video is great but in person I can only imagine how it would be.

Or I could come to your place, you still have more space than me Mike. I don't think I could get my machines in a suitcase though.

I will post photos soon Joe. I just hope I can keep up with the rent, space is expensive here.

One of the inner door frames...

Here the flange is thrown for the doorskin to fit to. Also shows the curve of the frame.

I finished the door skins today. (at last) I will post some photos later I have to take the wife shopping now.

    Good stuff, David.
Do you mind telling what the "teeth marks" are from?

I finally managed to get some more time on the door skins, they has got a bit of surface rust because they had been sitting about so long!. I had to clean this off. I put the bead in the top of the skins and formed the top area, this was shrunk to the correct shape.

The lines in the panel are where I have cleaned the surface with WD40 and Scotchbright.

Hi Joe the marks are just scuff marks from the tooling, as you can see in the photos above they were just on the surface and are no longer visible once I had gone over the panel with Scotchbright.

    Thanks for explaining. :)

What do you use for rust removal on heavier rust?
I assume you have high humidity and flash-rusting issues on steel you heat or scrub deeply. If not... lucky you.
Maybe we chatted about this before. Sorry, if so. Old brain syndrome.

I use either Evapo-Rust (if I want it clean quickly and money isn't as big a concern) or molasses and water (preferred method if I have the time).

I have a lovely pressurized blaster that sits in the corner now. I don't do production work so waiting overnight for the Evapo-Rust isn't a big deal.

Classes at the college are no more since they changed the rules again. I taught there for a good few years. That's part of the reason I want to do classes at my workshop. Just waiting to see if I am getting the building next door. I am glad you liked the DVD.

I have some Dupont metal conditioner which brings lightly rusted metal back like new and will clean more heavily rusted areas with a little scrubbing but you have to make sure you don't have any residue or it will just rust again. I bought a lot of it years ago not even sure if I can get any more.

    Thanks.
    I assume it's DuPont™ 5717S. Good stuff.
I've used that before as well, with good results but it's not strong enough for some of the heavier rust we have.

Thank you, I did a bit more today and I will be getting the extra space I wanted next month so I can move the project where I can work on it, then I will get a lot more done. So expect more progress.

That's great news about the space!
I hope to have mine by the end of summer. Fingers crossed.

Yes, I have heard before that we share a common high humidity level.
It finally went below 80% today.
The salt air mixed with it isn't great.
Flash rusting time is less than 10 minutes.

Anyway. Hopefully your new space works out well for you.
I, like many others, eagerly await your next DVD.

It is so cramped in my workshop Joe that it makes everything hard. I should end up with almost twice the space by next week but then I have to paint it all out and get stuff moved on so more work.

Thanks guys. I got the key for the new workshop today. My daughters spent a good few hours painting today.

There's space and then there's SPACE!
The girls are doing a sterling job, all credit to them for sticking to it and wishing you every success in taking it on - but be careful in how you fill it up........
