Yeah Eli, yesterday she turned over 173,500 miles while we were up on Bonanza creek at the gold discovery site. She has been real good to me so far, no major problems, shooting for 200k before we rebuild her.

John, we had that Salmon for dinner cooked on a charcoal grill at the Cabin we are staying at overlooking the Yukon river and the ferry boat.

We did sit in the front row at Gerties but declined the invitation to participate. We ain't seed no bears since entering Canada but did see a couple of Cougars last night in downtown Dawson.

We did the dome thing yesterday morning before Bonanza creek, wow what a view(pictures at 11).

We also took a short run up the Dempster just to say we did it.

Thanks again for the fish. (that's a line from Douglas Adams)

Bob, You are welcome. I hope it was good, nothing like grilled sockeye or king salmon. Forgot to tell Maggie the way I grille it. Anyways, how was the smoked salmon I gave her? John

Here we go again, got a few minutes this am before we head for Whitehorse, the capitol of the Yukon Territory.

Dinner night before last at the Drunken Goat. A great Greek shrimp dish with pita bread and a Ceasar Salad.

The car even stayed clean most of the day.

Front row seat for the Can Can show. They say the 11:30 show is the best one but us old folks are already in bed by that time.

With the routes you're driving that should happen (200K) right about the time you make the bend in the road @ B-Ville.

Gonna have a rebuild thrash @ the Inliners picnic?

Bob & Maggie, enjoy Whitehorse. There used to be a narrow gauge train that you could load your vehicle on and ride to Skagway. We did that I 71 after hunting outside of Fairbanks. It has been fun ridin along with you and seeing some of the places I have been so long ago. Enjoy the trip and keep sharing 'cause we sure are enjoying the ride.

  17. Did you get a chance to see the northern lights or is it too bright up there this time of year?

That's the Yukon & White Pass Railroad, used to go all the way to Whitehorse (rails are still there).

When I got a ride the furthest north they went was Lake Bennett, neat ride. :)

-Way too bright. We're only a month past the solstice, and right now, "night" is about two hours of twilight. It'll be another month or so before we'll start seeing true starry-sky nights.

    Doc.

  20. Hi Bob, I have been sharing your trip with my 81 yr. old father at the Vets Home here in F.F. MN. He looks foward to it each Thur.night when I come to have supper and spend the evening with him. He is an Army vet. from the Korean Conflict era. He was an equiptment operator stationed, Ladd Air Force Base in Fairbanks from Mar. '53- June '54. He may have helped build some of the roads you have been driving on!
I want to Thank you for going to all the work of posting your trip. It is great to spend the time talking about Dad's memories of Alaska.
    Thanks!!!!! Pat

Pat, that is one of the neatest things that have been said about this thread. Thanks for sharing it. My Dad was a WWII vet and your sharing this with him makes me remember mine even more vividly.

Had no internet in Whitehorse last night. We are now in Skagway for the night.

Let's see, where did we leave off??

Stopped here for Lunch, Awsome Turkey Cranberry sandwich on fresh baked bread.

It tasted as good as it looks. Notice the ice cream sign next door to the bakery, more on that later.

The Robert Service cabin where he wrote his famous poem "The shooting of Dan McGrew" and The Cremation of Sam McGee"

Strange things are done in the midnight sun, but the strangest that I ever did see was the night on the marge on lake la barge when I cremated Sam McGee" That is prolly not excatly right but my memory is not what it used to be.

This is his food storage, bear proof.

Here is part of the plaque at the cabin.

They had cup holders in the 1890's ??????

Gonna go get some birch beer more later.

  30. I'm still enjoying the trip Bob, (probably not as much as you). Thanks for the pics of Robert Service's cabin. His book is the only book of poems that I own.
