  13. This photo brings back memories with a different twist.
I was on the carrier USS Kittyhawk out in the I.O. One day, we were doing some exercises flying sorties with communications silence - playing games with the Russians (during the arms race). All of a sudden things went wrong during an incident and we had to clear the deck to catch an A7 with non functioning arresting gear.
So we put up a net to catch the A7...well, all communications were open because we had to assist the pilot in landing. As soon as we caught the A7, a Russian Bear had found us and did a low level fly by over the flight deck with the bomb bay doors wide open. I still remember the Russian crew standing in the bomb bay waving at us and looking as if saying "got yah!".

Colonel Francis S. Gabreski in his P-47. He had 28 air victories one on the ground in Europe, later got 6.5 more in Korea.

  17. Just how do you get 6.5 victories??

Something doesn't add up here. This is Maj Thomas McGuire's P-38, It shows 40 victories on the fuselage. All info I have ever seen credits Maj. McCuire with 38 victories. Anyone know the story on this? Probables that were later unconfirmed?

Two guys firing on an aircraft that goes down each get a half a victory. Kinda like linebackers defensive ends get half "sacks".

Wow there Lil32 - calm down dude.
After my post, I saw the link to that site.
I didn't know the early engines were 132 ci - I thought they were all 138's, which is not 2.15 litres. So I was wrong thinking they were all 138's, but my panties aren't all bunched up about it.
The point I was trying to make was that no one in Australia was thinking about litres or any other metric units back in 1948.
Now lie down and chill out.

  23. Well, I hope you can stand a few more from Toronto and other Southern Ont. locations. That bike in the first photo is gold plated.
