Vintage shots from days gone by!

1947 Indy 500 Pace Car. Clark Gable at the wheel of the Nash with George Mason the CEO of Nash - Kelvinator leaning on the car. Mason actually took the car on its "initial pace lap."

 

Nash at North Wilksboro in 1950. Earlier in the same year it had competed in the Carrera Panamericana where it was driven by Bill France and Curtis Turner.

 

Louise Smith drove in the top echelon of NASCAR as early as 1946. In her first race she came in 3rd place, though she had never even seen a race previously. Bill France Sr. actually encouraged her to drive in an effort to find women to compete against the male drivers in NASCAR.

 

Carolyn Jones ? Perhaps.

Thanks! S'more. I was putting a 500 Caddy in the stude, but despite the appearance, the structure was fubar.

 

Close, no cigar. H-Vc which first flew 5/26/42 and is shown over Göttingen.
