Vought F7U Cutlass striking the deck of the USS Hancock. The pilot lost his life in the crash and several sailors were injured. The Cutlass was known for having a terrible safety record and was withdrawn from fleet service shortly after.

As the driver does a double take, he recognizes Frank Bullitt in his rear view mirror.

I originally thought it was the crosing at Glendale and Alvarodo Blvd but it's where Santa Monica and Melrose meet at Doheny if I recall. Although I still travel through LA for work sometimes it's been 37 years since my family moved from the Echo Park District. Good catch :D

The Earll Carroll Theater was a famous L.A. landmark in the 6200 block of Sunset. It was later known as Frank Sennes Moulin Rouge and in the late '60's became the Aquarius Theater. It is currently in use by Nickelodeon and is a protected landmark. The tiles on the exterior wall featured autographs of the famous movie stars at the time. I saw a live production of West Side Story there on a dinner date in '62.

The Cutlass was a death trap. Severely under powered, it was known as the Ensign killer. 40 some pilots in one year.

The ejection seat wasn't zero zero so pulling the handle was not much of an option either.

Nope, those are two P-40s rather than a Twin Mustang.
