From those pictures it looks as if the spring is flat when relaxed?

Thats what I have been saying:It doesnt FLEX like a traditional leaf,it TWISTS like a torsion bar....really cool stuff!

    Thanks again 1bad32!!!

pic in post #61..looks to have a twist at rest, end at LCA is flat to floor and opp end with trunnion seems to be angled up..So this was a "kit", could anybody have bought it or just what was supplied to the authorised builders?

I understand that part... It just doesn't look like there is even much twist in it relaxed, although looking at post 61 again it does appear that the bracket isn't sitting flat, so there is obviously some.

I'd love to see the engineering notes on this project. Why a twisted leaf? Why not bars like lots of cars already used?

One of my random ideas on my car has been to adapt torsion bars to free up engine bay.... I never imagined using a leaf in this manner.

In Phil Bonner's Falcon it appears to be perfectly straight.I realize there is no weight on it though....Maybe it sags a bit, maybe not?I'm thinking due to the overall length of it you might be right and there may be some amount of sag in it.
On the other hand,if it was soft enough to bend before it twisted,it would never twist at all,and the whole principle that the design is based on would be defeated....
    I dunno....I work in the oil fields...wtf do I know...lol!:D

I was SO hoping when I called H/M that they would just say "Oh,well we can send you out one of our front suspension kits this afternoon, that'll be $799.95...Visa or Mastercard...?"
    No such luck...lol:(

That pic shows the car supported by a jack under the LCA, so it's in it's "compressed" state.

Sorry 63comet,I misunderstood your post...when you said flat you meant not twisted...not un-bent.

By the time this thread plays out I'm hoping we have technical drawings and spring specs so if desired one can build their own kit!

Good catch 63.I was all tunnel vision and vertigo cause of the big honkin' FE in the background and didnt even pay attention to that.
I love that they even tossed the steering box outboard of the framerail for more clearance...I'm guessing that it made for a pretty weird angle on the column inside the car though...

No worries! The interwebs often make discussions overly confusing.

This has been the most interesting thread to me on the HAMB in a long time!

I know I'm a really big nerd....but I have been coming back to camp at lunch to check on this thread....every time something new pops up I'm like a kid in a candy store.

And 1bad32: You are torturing me here Brother...!lol!
Just exactly how much info do you have squirrelled away, and how long are you gonna keep teasing us with bits and pieces of it.....lets have a big pile of it all at once!
I'm actually waiting for you to post some pics, from your garage, taken 5 minutes ago,of your Factory A/Fxer's front suspension cause you got bored watching me drool all over the HAMB for the last five nights...Lmao!

Thanks again Man,you've really contributed something special here, and for that I am truly grateful.

Holman Moody has all that, but won't send it out through the mail or email, for fear of people ripping it off and selling it.
BUT,they told me they will gladly let you photograph it if you visit them in Charlotte!

And as far as those trunnion balls...I wish we had some colour pictures of those.
I'm guessing they would be bronze maybe...?

    What do you guys think?

Those are hanging me up.... What is going on inside the bracket at the forward end? I was ***uming a regular leaf eye arrangement, but maybe just the flat end of the spring solidly mounted?

Why balls? With two it can't pivot in more than one plane. Is it again making do with something off the shelf?

I'm stumped too...I think the trunnions allow it to rise easily, but not droop when weight is applied...?
I'm gonna be up all night thinking about this....dammit!lol!

Could u call and get the guys name you talked to at Holman Moody? I got my brother talked into stopping there when he goes threw Charlette on vacation in a couple weeks. He will get pics and any info they have on these front setups that they will let him get. So I would like the name so he can talk direct to the guy that told you that you could come take pics and so on.

    Thanks Joe

    Joe,
You're gonna get a kick outta this one.....

So I called Holman/Moody back today, told the young gentleman who answered the phone what it was I was looking for,and that I needed to verify that photos of do***ents were going to be ok,as a Buddy's brother was going to be making a special trip to get the information, and it was a long way to go to be shot down if someone was unclear about the arrangement....
Long story short:He had no idea what the rules were,so he says:"Let me connect you with my boss".....
Well it turns out it was the same funny old guy I had talked to the other day....and here's the really cool part:It was none other than Lee Holman!
So,he is going to be in town monday and tuesday, but out of town for the rest of the week.Make sure your brother calls ahead to verify that Lee will be there,as he told me "I'm the only one with access to the LIBRARY"...!
    How freakin' cool is that?!?!?!?!

AND,as icing on the cake,a lot of hours of hard work and spilled blood paid off tonight in the form of my nicely broken in 6-71 supercharger.
I pulled it off an old cement truck that was abandoned out in the bush near the site I'm working at.....which is 75 miles south of the arctic circle.lol!
The wolves, bears, and worst of all mosquitos the size of bats(!) couldn't stop me from scoring a free blower...!:D

Bonner's Falcon was pretty hard on the AWB Mopars back in the day apparently, too, according to the magazines from '65.....
DEFINITELY a fan favorite with those enormous wheelies!
