Well, I've been having some flooding issues the past few days and it seems to be getting progressively worse. I'm running an Edelbrock Performer (advertised 650cfm, but really a 625cfm) Typically it happens right after I've been driving it and then shut it off. When I go to start it back up, whether it's been 10 minutes or 5 hours, it's flooded and doesn't want to run. What I've been doing to clear it up is rev it up a bit, but I need to be careful with that because oil pressure isn't quite up on initial start. It also wants to stall (as though it's flooding) around turns at speed, especially steep downhill turns. This all leads me to believe that it's a float issue. I know that there have been many discussions about Edelbrock performers around here, and I've worked on them plenty, just haven't had time to take the top off and look at the floats just yet. I'll let you guys know the outcome...

Awesome thread and Truck Buzz! Like the clean firewall. How did you route your throttle linkage?
I am just getting back into mine. Here it is right now before I dropped the cab on this weekend. I flipped the stock rear axle just to see how much drop I would get. Also I flipped the rear spring perches too. Looking for a rear end if anyone has one around Michigan area. I have some 18 " Camaro steel wheels and and tires I would like to use.
Up front I would like to use your theme with posies, a drop axle and a sway bar. I heard Sid is an awsome guy to deal with. Just a little leary of running a bent axle. Have you had any problems with yours? CPP has an aftermarket one but you dont get that I beam look : (.

I saw this beauty at the Mooneyes BBQ. I love the color, scallops and pin stripping.

dubie, was that question for me? If it was, my cam is only a 292...lumpy but not HUGE... As far as stall, mine is a 4speed Muncie - M22.

oh right, i forgot you've got one of the good tranny's. That 292 cam is a big street cam in a small block. It makes a small block sound alot like a big block. BTW, did you happen to grab any video of the exhaust note this sweet little pickup puts out?

    Thanks Green.

I haven't had time to adjust the float and get the carb running right, but as soon as I do I'll get some video.

    Buzz,

I just re read this whole thread again. Alot of great info on a great build. Not sure if you decided on a color yet. IMHO I like the way you have it right now. A flat or satin color with the all black wheel combo is awesome. Very subtle and shows off the stance and all the work you have done underneath and under the hood.

I couldn't agree more, he has done an excellent job with this pickup.

This thing is spot on Buzz, I agree with dawsonn57 too and would keep it a flat color. Too many folks now are going with the same shades of blue green and red gloss... I dig it the way it is.

How is it driving now? Still good?

    That reminds me...

We are still waiting for our video, so stop driving the piss out of that thing and share :D haha.

Thanks for the compliments guys...I appreciate it. I know all the things wrong with it, but it's a blast to drive.

I took the top end off the carb last night and found the drivers side float WAY off...was adjusted too high. It also had silt in the bottom of both bowls...which means my tank is dirty. I put a new filter on it before I fired it up about a month ago, but I do remember running it about 10 months ago right after the carb was rebuilt and I think I may have been running with an old filter back then and picked up some crud from the bottom of the tank. I think I'm going to run redundant filters inline until I can swap to the new tank under the bed. I also need to buy a fuel regulator. It's currently running at around 6.5psi and it needs to be around 5.25 to 5.5 max. Long story short, I'll take video when it runs just right...no fun watching a vehicle stumble all over itself...lol.

Well, got the damn thing running strong again...I actually think it's running better than it was before - the lag from idle seems to be gone and it seems to have a little more power. I'm guessing, with how the fouled plugs looked, that I wasn't getting complete combustion before. I don't think I have the air/fuel screws perfect...they're damn close.

I need to reinvest $50 - $60 into new plug wires...for now I have a mixed set just to keep it running.

I'll get that video posted here soon...

I went through all the wiring and found two issues. The first one likely didn't contribute to any of the spark plug wire or charging issues - the overhead dome light wasn't mounted tightly to the cab (loose screws) which was causing me to blow fuses on the interior light circuit. The second one may very well have caused my issues - the ground strap going to the block was loose at the block. I have no idea how it loosened up as I have a split washer there...I can only guess that heat may have contributed. I tightened her down and checked the charge system and all seems fine now. I still need to swap to the new spark plug wires (as opposed to a mixed set) but I think my ignition and charging woes are over.

Next step is to deal with a non-functioning speedo cable, wrapping a couple sections of the exhaust and ironing out the steering slop issue. Now that it's on the road, I take baby steps and address one issue at a time...I can't stand down time, I'd rather drive her.

i hear ya bud. Now that mine is on the road, I drive it as much as possible. Once I hear something or feel something that isn't right, it's back in the shop to check it out.

How do you find your front end? Does it make and creaking noises while turning? Mine has a slight creak in it but I'll be greasing everything up again to see if it just needs a little more. Now that I have my dragging brake issue solved, and the C notch beefed up, it rides like an entirely different truck.

I actually don't have any creaking noises at all. That said, there is something going on, because there is too much slop for it to be completely right. I need to shake it down and have a feeling that I will either need new bearings or new kingpins..or both. I thought the bearings were new, and the kingpins were not that old at all (maybe 1000 miles total) but I didn't hone the axle, so I may have too much play between the bushing and the pin. The only bad noises I hear are when the suspension has bottomed out - I don't have a whole bunch of travel. Once I get the door bumpers and weatherstripping installed I don't think I'll hear much rattling or bumping at all.

Hell...it's a 57 year old truck, who am I kidding!?

the weather stripping and the door panels made a HUGE difference in the cab noise once they were installed. I'm with you 100% on trying to make an old truck keep from rattling. I tell everyone " it's damn near 60 years old, it's going to make noise!!"
