Very cool man and yeah the Mopar motors seem to get lost in the world of T kits as of right now. I talked to Spirit and RPM both told me they never built one and if I did let them know. I told them I would use a big block Mopar and they both told me to extend the frame a few inches.

Sounds like you will have a cool ride and very cool they are that close to get the body. If I was close to any to pick up I would but most are hours in driving.

I think what they are refering to with adding some inches is that the BB Mopar trans bellhousing is really big and you will lose legroom opening up the firewall/floor, pushing it forward gets it fit into the body better. The other choice (which I have done before) is to make an adapter plate from Mopar to Chevy and have the converter spaced back off a custom flexplate(ring gear), but doing it that way WILL put a crimp into the buget. Saw a Riverside Calif Craigslist listing for what looks to be a decent roller for $4500-- offer $4000 and have it shipped.

Did you start a build thread on this? I'm curious how much all the stuff you got from Spirit set you back?

Sorry I haven't updated in a while. I was in the process of selling my '66 Charger and buying a '55 Chevy. It needed some work so I had to put the T aside for a while to make room in the garage. I should be starting back on it soon. I will start a proper build thread also....

Out with th old, in with the new...

So far it's about $3500 from Spirit. I have pretty much everything to make it a roller.

Dang I love that 55 but love that 66 Charger! That one looked really nice and very hard cars to restore the after market hates the 65-67 Mopars! The crazy thing is the 66-67 Chargers based off the 66-67 Coronet but do not share the same quarter panels. I forget how much they are off I want to say five inches off.

    What motor was the Charger?

Can't wait to see the Bucket build.

The Charger had a 440/dual quad/4-speed. It was a great car and awesome engine. I did lots of work to it including new interior, engine rebuild, etc. etc.

You are correct. They are very expensive to restore because of the lack of aftermarket parts, but it's getting better. The 1st gen Chargers are enjoying a new found popularity and the prices are reflecting it. That's partly why I sold it. Still not as high as the 2nd gen or other Mopars, but better than ever. People are dragging them out of barns and fields to restore now. I've had lots of classic cars but none that came close to the Charger for attracting attention on the street or at shows. Very cool and unique car for sure, but I always loved the Tri-Fives. I could never afford one, but when I was made an offer to buy the Charger, I couldn't resist. And I got this '55 at a crazy cheap price, so I went for it.

I do love those first gen Chargers! I almost bought one about ten years ago, but even then it was far enough gone that it would have cost a mint to go through.

I also love the first Gen Chargers. I found a rare one last summer a 1967 Charger with a 440 the first year for them and last year of that body. I forget how many they made that year but I think it was less then 400. I couldn't come up with the cash and the car needed a full restoration on it. It was also missing grill and headlights but there was a guy in their who had a set for sale $500 for it.

The 1966-1967 was not a great car on the track but they did add a spoiler to the back that helped a little.

My dad had a 1966 Hemi Charger given to him but before the title was signed over he passed away it was a white on red car.

Thats just awesome! I have only seen one Charger in real life with an original spoiler. I'm not sure how the guy got it for a street car because I don't think it was an option.

Now you got me wanting to look for a first Gen Charger lol.

I have a rpm standard body with a floor in it for $500. I found a steel body and I'm not using the glass body !

It's not a T but...... Ive got about 1200 in mine. We built everything, and I mean everything. 5 Years and more like 10 if you include parts collecting. It's light and small, hot and smelly, but fun as hell. Kids go nuts for it! I'm finally getting to put some miles on her. She also got her picture taken last weekend with some pin up girls(yessss). Swap meets friends junk loaner motor and lots of time. When you're poor you have to get crafty. I"ve changed some things, I'll add some newer pics later

About 1k as it sits. I've gotten really lucky by trading off unwanted parts for stuff I need. Still have a few hundo for rad and brake parts.
