History 1933 - 1936 Willys, picture thread

Discussion in 'Traditional Hot Rods' started by WillysRule, Dec 5, 2010.

  1. Help, help, help!!!
I need a picture of how the window riser mechanism, and the window channel goes back together. Am putting back together my '36 sedan, and thought I remembered how it went, but unfortunately it's not right.(it binds) Anyone have a picture of the back door mechanism on a 4-door, and how it fits with the door glass channel???

I have some rear doors in the rafters I will try to get at them this weekend and snap a picture unless someone posts pictures sooner.

  3. Pat,
Thank you very much, that would be a godsend. I am not sure if I have the window channel on correctly, and wasn't sure which side of the slot that the spring loaded button passes through to ride in the slot. Nothing I try seems to make it not only raise and lower smoothly, but it also doesn't seem to go down far enough, or at least as far down as it did before I tore it apart. Lesson learned...should have taken a picture before disassemble...I should know better. I look forward to your help, as I know getting good pictures in such a narrow area won't be easy.

  4. Thanks to 34 coupe, I figured out how the rear windows in my 36 sedan went in. Couldn't have done it without his help and pictures. They are IN!

Looked at these today. It is a shame the two 35/36 deliveries folded up on themselves. Just going to sit and rot probably.

This is the 33 coupe that is in a magazine I had when I was a kid. I think it was from the north east. I never forgot that one.

Super Willys is on #1200 in this tread. It became a street rod I say it at the Street Rod Nats East in Timonium MD around 1976.

Question again for all the Willys old timers, when did coil over come into play or rear on front? ALSO with the dog catcher there is picks of a sbc and also a bbc, what years did people start running BBc chevys?

Looking through the picks you rarley see anybody besides George Montgomery running a stock axel, why is this? Is it because of the disc issue on the front? Reason for asking is I got a stock axel and spindles. Cant fiqure out if I should run it?

  18. Coil over rear shock adds started showing up in Drag News in late '66-early '67.

Did I ever mention that when I was a wee lad, my dad had the frame from the Hrudka Bros (MR Gasket co. fame) in the back yard. At one time between steel and early 'glass bodies he had something like 17 1933-1941 Willys bodies at the same time?
To think that back in the early 80's 3k for an all steel 33 type coupe was a LOT of money. Man things have changed.

In 1980 I paid 2K for my crunched up steel body. A friend and nationally prominent restorer of Model A's looked at my purchase and shook his head and said' "You paid $2000 for THAT?

I wouldn't trade it for two 100 point Model A's now.

I've read the entire thread and have been bit. I let one get away in the '60's, but I'm now trying to gather the parts for a build. After reading the thread I have a few questions.
I've noticed on the '36 pickups, some have a "soft" upper rear cab section, but most are metal. Did they come both ways or were the metal ones stock or modified?
What is the difference in the front axles '33-'36 and '37-'41? Can a late axel be used in an early car?
Need interior garnish moldings. Will sedan moldings fit my coupe? Door glass? Quarter glass? Back glass?
Thanks to everyone that contributes to this site. It helps feed my addiction.

Hey Willys panel guys, why does the Bad Company panel has such a different shape than mine? The bad company panel looks like it might not be orignal? Is it a made panel or is it a old protoype? Compare the roofs.

1936 Roadster was a one year only body style as were all 1936 Holden built Willys - 4 door sedan, 3 window coupe, 5 window coupe, coupe ute, roadster, roadster ute, tourer and panel van. The roadsters were significantly different from the earlier 1933/34 and 1935 bodies with separate windshield stanchions. The 1936 had integrated windshield laid back more than the earlier roadsters and the belt line treatment had a flash ending behind the door where the earlier roadsters had a belt line moulding that went all the way to the rear of the car. I don't think a single panel from the main body structure interchanged between the two....
