Thanks Guys. Things took a interesting turn yesterday when I picked up this stuff.

Head is a cast iron Super Winfield, Winfield intake with Winfield model S BB updraft and a model C updraft and supposedly two Winfield cams

BTW my last name is Field and I think winning is awesome. seems like Winfield equipment is the right fit. :D

Hmm. Hitchhiker Field. Has an interested ring to it. Kind of like an eccentric hobo that the small town all loves. :D

Those are some pretty cool parts! When are you going to show us how they fit?

I've been invited to a show with the truck on the 3rd. I'm going to wait to swap the engine out till then. That gives me a couple weeks to get everything in order. I'm going to sand blast the head and have it magnafluxed and surface it. I may take the new engine apart and modify it for full pressure oiling, as I know I will drive the piss out of this thing.

I'm also thinking that I should paint the engine. I think the head was originally red, so I plan to repaint it that. I don't think it will look good on a green engine. I'm thinking black on the engine. Not sure if I will run the winfield intake and carbs. I have a thomas 2x2 that I could run too. I'm planning to have it back together for the flathead run in September, but it's starting to look a little tight on timeline. It may not get lowered and juiced until after then.

Thanks for all the positive comments everyone!

Not sure if you literally meant sand blast, but I wouldn't. You don't want sand anywhere near your engine parts.

Looking great, by the way, love the engine plans. I'll give those Winfield carbies a good home.;)

  12. Sandblasting the head should be okay, my local machine shop sand blasts (or perhaps media blasts.. i'm not really sure) all heads they do before they machine them. Have had a head for my OT '75 Holden done there, as well as a few of my mates have had heads done at the same shop. All get blasted inside and out, before machine work. None of us have ever had a problem with it.

Oh, I'm digging further. Dont gotta pull the back glass to get the steering box out with the engine gone.

I need to decide what color to paint the engine...I'm thinking black, with the Winfield head red. Or painting the head green and faking it as a Winfield commercial head. I just cant stick a red head on a green engine, and I will not paint the whole thing red. Any other ideas?

Black and red or Battleship gray and red. Not too many colors go with red on an engine.

I have to agree with above. Black possibly but gray might look cool. Sure don't see too many gray.

I would think red with Rustoleum Smoke Gray.
