Leaf spring to remove on multi leaf rear

    Twin multi-leaf springs on rear axle. If you wanted to soften the rear end of a Posies multi leaf spring? Would yo remove the spring next to main leaf or the small leaf on the bottom?

    Not sure it's wise to remove any of the leaves, but if I were going to, and had to choose from the options you pose, I'd remove the small one at the bottom.

    My reasoning is that the main leaf, without the support of the long second leaf, would be too weak and unsupported over much of it's length. In addition to which, it would also have little resistance to spring "wrap".

    Removing the small leaf probably would not soften as much, but the problems suggested above would be minimized. At least, that's how I see it.

  6. i remove leaves all the time on my 29 coupe, i found the posies is very weak without all leaves tho

  9. my stock rear spring i took out all except 4.and its still to hard. i found that removing them makes it a tad softer but they bottom out easier..as far as my possies spring pack. i took out two and it was so weak it didnt work.ended up just removing the smallest one. bottom line. this is trial and error stuff. no instructions on how to build your car with what exact thing will work..try it out.if you dont like it,put it back.

    and p.s rule of thumb is to remove every other spring.not saying to follow that just saying thats what old timers say to do.

    32 Ford 3 w cpe steel 9" Ford rear, dual leafs Posies , the kit recomended for this car. Way too stiff. This is not my 1st 32. 1st time with dual leafs.

    The one at the bottom! I do that all the time on trailer leaf springs.

    I noticed on different rated trailer springs I was getting , they all had the same part number painted on the main leaf.

    I was going to remove some leaves on the front of my Willys p/u and it was recommened to remove every other one up to three leaves. I have ten in each pack. I never really got to it as I found out I had a broken eyelet on one side and got new 8 pack leaves. I will be removing some off the rear packs as well and will post the results. It rides like a truck right now.

    The longer leafs will have more effect on softening the ride, so if you want to gradually soften it take out the shorter leafs. If you want a big difference take out the longest leaf next to the main leaf.
