Here u go guys here's the pic. Yes I'm pretty sure they are factory. Posted using the Full Custom H.A.M.B. App!
...you'd lose your hundred; those are factory back-up lite mounting points. my 55 has the left fender like that, the other one doesn't have that dimple, so likely the left one's a newer fender...
Late 65 and all 66 step fenders had backup lights mounted in a fender dimple. Fenders fit from 55-1/2 to 66. Without looking on web, I can't recall a factory dimple looking that complex, but time erases memory
Let me help clarify that memory . I have a '65 stepside C10 so I have done a bit of hunting and searching for parts... I found this in my archive files: "The rear stepside fenders on the 1955 (2nd series) through 1966 are usually considered the same. The reproductions on both metal and fibergl*** are listed in catalogs and related adverti*****ts as being identical on the right and identical on the left. Not true if you are a perfectionist! In 1966 Federal automotive regulation required all cars and light trucks to have back-up lights. Thus, GM modified this fender with a stamped indention to better fit the required back-up light ***embly." http://www.oldchevytrucks.com/blog/?tag=1966
What else did you research on the actual light itself? I think I recall there were GM factory accessory back up lights before the FED deal. I kind of remember those being on a simple steel plate bracet bolted to the rear bed post? And some Chevy trucks or at least suburbans from around 63 up?, used the 55 front park light chrome bezel and white lens as back ups. Those had lenses with the "55" guide code as I recall. But it seems I recall a bigger, maybe flat dome shape on the pickup back up light, just a year or two prior to 66?
I think he may be thinking about the fleetside bed tail lights. A lot of guy run the fleestide bed on 55,56,57 Trucks
Check out Persh's website link here, I think your memory is a lot clearer than you give it credit for.. http://www.persh.org/pickup/BackupLights.htm The optional light had a rubber "pad" that fit the stepside fender contour, the std '66 light didn't need the pad. The fender isn't flat in this area. I know this because I mounted some '64 Impala taillights in my '65. More Options: No dimple, the light shines a bit upward (especially with the stock stinkbug rake these trucks had from the factory). The dimple gives the light an al***ude adjustment and a flat mounting surface. My '64 Impala taillights, I mounted them upside down to get the angle a bit more level:
That's a early 60s C10 rear fender on that truck. All the info shown here points to the early 60s C10 as to having those reverse lights mounted on the rear fenders. But in 1956, Chevrolet did not offer factory installed reverse lights on their trucks (except on Cameos). Heck, a second taillight was a extra paid option.
Thanks for all this info.i really learned something today!!did they make a duluxe in 56?this truck has stainless trim around the windshield, both doors and around the back or this standard?
They made a Deluxe. Taskmaster trucks like yours had the stainless trim and a big back window (no small window Deluxe). My 1951 Advance Design Chevy truck is a Deluxe model, hence the 5 window cab and stainless trim.
