You go to Bonneville and this all the pictures you have!.................stop looking at all the cars in amazement and send us poor lugs who can't go some pictures.........please.......what about the Johnson's Rod Shop Studebaker?
A few more from the salt. Not sure what year this Chevy is, '46 maybe, but it sure looks like an FJ Holden. Great pickup truck that runs a 302 Jimmy. Nice roadster that was running up around 170 or so, I think. The 'little' Mariani roadster. Another gorgeous car. Yep. Julio from the Bean Bandits pushes off the belly tank he built. Gunning for 160mph with a three-carb flathead. Killer!
Had a good look at it in the pits and a nice chat with the owner, Paul Gilliam. AMAZING car. They're still going through licensing, but that car's been built to go 300. By the look of it, it will get there. Sorry, no pics as it was difficult to shoot under the shade and they were all over it getting it ready. Hopefully get a shot tomorrow.
Boris, I really dig the blue Tudor behind Tom Branch's Roadster, seems to be at Speedweek every year.
Here's a few more from today and yesterday. Was a bit knackered last night and didn't get around to updating the post. Panorama of the salt flats with Tom McIntyre's Rolling Bones coupe. Yesterday we photographed this killer Merc. Completely home built except for the pinstriping on the flames and boot. 354 Hemi, 4-speed, 9-inch. Stupid photo because we were taking the piss out of our hip hop loving photographer mate, Jordan Leist. Couple of detail shots. Got up at Dawn's crack this morning and headed to the impound. This is where car's that qualified to set a new record, i.e. ran faster than the existing record, have to stay until the next day. They then get to go out on the course before anyone else can run and try to back up the record. Bunch of Kiwis were chasing a record but spun out at the 3 mile marker doing about 230mph! This is the Harris Family car and Duane from Kiwi Konnection is on the crew. Trans Am was in impound as well. Something you don't see too often. Mariani roadster. Had a bit of a chat to Troy Trepanier while they were in the starting lanes. Amazingly detailed and fast car. Ardun motor in the BMR coupe. Great looking car. It's the yellow one with red scallops that has been around for a long time.
"why...do guys build a car that looks like a dog draggin' its ass across the carpet?" Bahhahaaha, good one
Great pics Boris but you suck for being able to go to the salt. Man I'm so jealous of you...............
Don't worry, mate, it's a struggle for me financially. Trying not to spend too much money and I'll try to make as much of it back as I can when I get home. Got some great stories and feature cars to do, so I should break even at least. That's the plan, anyway... Have been wanting to come for a long time, but you can't just keep putting these things off.
This view never changes. It looked exactly like this in 1960. Seeing it is like going home. Thanks for taking the time to post these beautiful photos.
So far, George Poteet has gone 430+ in Speed Demon, but there are a couple of streamliners running high 300s. Vesco streamliner is about to run... Just went 285. Turbinator is also here but hasn't run yet. Posted using the Full Custom H.A.M.B. App!
If you get a chance check out the 9913 Stupidbaker {their name, not mine} built by Johnson from Georgia. The same guy with the flat blue & silver 55 Chevy. The detail & workmanship is off the charts. The owner of the Baker is new at Bonneville & thinks his sh*t doesn't stink, acts as if youre not worthy to even talk to him. You know all the dipsh*t did was sign the checks. be that as it may the car is a work of art, the paint & body work incredible, chopped top, lengthened etc. He hasn't figured out that no one cares at Bonneville. Been going for 29 years and never met an asswipe like him before. The track was bad & when I left they already had 20 spinouts and now I hear 2 bad wrecks but no one hurt badly or worse
Yep, seen the car, it's beautiful as is Brian Sawyer's grey one. I had a great chat with Paul Gilliam (the owner of Stupidbaker) and he was just fine with me. Had a great chat about the car and he was insistent that people know that Alan Johnson built the car. Paul even told me how the name came about, and I quote: "When my wife was signing cheques [or checks as you Yanks call them] she would say 'Is this for that Stupidbaker.'" I thought it was funny.
