Thanks for all the pictures. Every time I see pictures from this place I say I'm going to make it next year!

Did you get any other pictures of the blue tudor? I'd like to see more of this car.

On Saturday Poteet had a record run, the Speed Demon went into impound. First thing Sunday morning he did the back up run, unfortunately at about 190MPH he started having canopy problems and had to shut it down. He had to start all over again. He immediately came back around for another run but didn't make it. Here's pictures of him and crew waiting to run. Wife holding helmet.

Great thread and a great batch of photos folks. Thanks to all of you for sharing them.

Triumph, your photos may be too high resolution to post on the board and that may be why you are having trouble. I'd think that most of the guys have their photos saved on a photo host and then show the photos here from that.

  9. OK... so here's a few shots from today. Got down there at first light again to see what was going on in the impound area and then headed over to Course 3. People were finding Course 1 and Course 2 pretty slippery, so there was a huge amount of cars lined up. Here's a few pics of nothing in particular.

Super nice '39 Standard Coupe. Spoke to the bodyman that fixed it. He said it was an ex-drag car that rolled and they replaced the whole roof on it. Not sure how fast it was, but it was flathead powered. I think it was in the 120s.

    Another Rolling Bones car.

Great little belly tanker with a 4-banger in it from Kowalski's.

This Corvette held a bunch of records, all around 230-240mph in B, C and D class. I was digging the 'Don't Mess With Texas' scheme. :)

Legendary Team Vesco. Awesome looking machine. This is the piston-powered one running in C/GS and they've also got the Turbinator (turbine-powered streamliner) here but it hasn't run yet. Hopefully it will run tomorrow.

And finally, me in one of the restaurants in the casino, Pancho and Willies. Nice Mexican food, $3 margarita and tequila. Top way to finish off the night. :)

  10. On that second run he ran 418mph, so it wasn't a case of 'not making it', he lunched the motor on that pass.

I spoke to Bill Guzenski (a crew member) about what happened. Here's a bit of a blow-by-blow.

George went out and ran 431 (or something like that) on the first run of the meet but torched one of the heads. This was with the B motor.

They borrowed one of the heads off the C motor to fix the B motor and went to back it up on the next day and had the problems with the canopy, so that put paid to setting the record on that day.

So he went out again, ran 418 but junked the motor. So, as the B and C motors were out of action, they put the D motor in and upped their existing record. George wasn't interested in backing it up, so they put the C motor back in after repairing the head that had been borrowed to fix the B motor.

Not sure how it went on the final run today.

When I said "didn't make it", he did make the run but from what I understood he didn't make the speed for a record.

Pics of my friend Tim running his record setting 1950 HD Hummer, 50mph and some change:eek: He added an inverted headlight bucket which put him into the streamliner class to see if he could get that record too. A crew from England running a 1946 Hummer smoked him. They set that record with a couple of runs, one 78mh with a return of 80mph. Another series of a pretty cool Olds running a 324 with a Ford push car.

Don't know if he's a member here, but anyone here know the fellow with the black primer '34 5 window running the Merc flathead. He's from Kennewick, Washington area. Car is pictured above at the Nugget. We talked Saturday at the Nugget and would like to contact him if possible. Pm me or him if he's a member. Thanks!

Thanks for sharing your Speed Week '13 pics with us here on the H.A.M.B. ... Much appreciated!

  25. A few more from today. A lot less vehicles there now, but the heavy hitters are still there. Poteet went 448 out the back door on a 439 average. He's in impound, so we're going to head down early again tomorrow to see it (hopefully) back up the record run.

    Really neat BMW sidecar.

Awesome Harley. Had a Procharger on the other side going through an intercooler, which you can see at the front of the frame. Great looking bike.

Beautiful, beautiful roadster of Jerry Cleland runs a Buick Straight 8. They're going to try and qualify for the record tomorrow morning and then back it up in the afternoon.

    A Moon disc selfie. :)

Chip Gerber's '32 is one of the shiniest cars out there. It has a HEAP of chrome on it, including the Moon tank on the front which is filled with 250lb of lead shot.

Amazing twin-engined streamliner of Richardson & Stark. This thing has two 388 Chevies with front-mounted 8/71 blowers. On alcohol they make about 1200hp each and on nitro about 1700! Beautiful, BEAUTIFUL piece of machinery.

The world's fastest Goodfellas sticker. It's gone 249.9mph on the back of Hooley's Studebaker. :)

Also if anyone could give some more information on the "City Of Burbank"

    Thank You!

    Attached Files:

  29. They were just licensing the car, so they just had an unblown C motor in it. Single four barrel. The plan is to go 300mph with the car, but that will probably be with a twin-turbo motor.

Just checked the SCTA-BNI website results. The car went 226 on Wednesday. Not bad for a first time out.

It was built by Johnson's Hot Rods for Paul Gilliam.
