Ya Sam really gave me a pretty nice band aid for the car show! I'm putting my grill up for sale and then I will be on the look for another one.

Tanner & Sam... This is all super fantastic! And it sure makes me happy to see the "store" alive with cool Hot Rods.

Danged awesome story, pics and vids. Really like it with the full hood. Personally, I'd get that rear lowered before taking some out of the top. But it's great as is.

So I finally got the 34 back on the road! I want to thank my father-in-law Dave for all the help, parts, and access to his shop to work on this car. I would have never got it back on the road without it.

I want to start off by apologizing for my spelling and run on sentences. Just bare with me. I originally tore the car down to replace the rear end and ended up fixing more than just the rear end. My father-in-law had a 56' chevy rear end that was adapted to run 36' rear wishbones and spring. So we used that under my car and had to modify some wishbones that would work with the brackets of my previous radius rods.

I planned on lower the front and rear of the car a little bit. So after the rear end, I moved up front and took a spring out of the front leafspring. I continued by shorting the front radius rod brackets, because the brackets were dragging in the dirt. Since I moved the brackets up in the back we had to cut, bend, and reweld the front radius rods so we wouldn't change the caster of the axle. I hacked off and rounded the frame horns. I wanted the headlights lower so I made an all in one bracket for the headlights and front shocks.

Once I was finished with the front end, we started on a plan for my radiator. The old radiator had about 20 holes in it so it was time for a new one. Our friend Brian had a nice radiator that he sold to me. The car was channeled so we had to move the raditor down too. We made brackets and tried to place it in the center of the car the best we could.

After the radiator was in place we worked on the grill and hood. We ended up having to extend the hood a little in places to make the fit acceptable. I had no clue what a pain it can be to try and fit these 34 hoods. I plan to work on the splash pans at another time since they will take some time and effort to make they look nice.

Here are the seats that I put in the car. Look like they were meant for this car!

Here is a shot of Sam's (51farmtruck) 32 Sedan, that he just finished for bonneville, and my car in front of the paint shop that we designed to look like the old Texaco Station it once was in the 50's.

Very Cool!!! When I was your age I was so broke that I had to play with old VWs, but had many adventures chasing them down and roadtrippin.

  8. I like it without the splash aprons, The contrast between the black frame and the red car make it look kind of swoopy.

    Thanks guys!

John this is after ha ha! Dave told me you guys were laughing your ass' off! So I got the car done Monday and took it for a test drive. I didn't even make it out of Dave's driveway when I munched the grill because I was being a dumbass and not watching were the high and low was in the driveway. It's fixed now but here are some before shots. I was super discouraged Monday but some how Dave and I straightened it out.

Oh I forget to mention I made new exhaust. I have corvette ram horns now and 2.5" exhaust going straight out the back with a small muffler at the end of the pipe. I did a real quick job on the exhaust but I'm really happy with how it sounds. Sounds more like a hot rod now!

Very good looking 5W. I vote for no splash shields if you are still thinking about which way to go.

For some reason when I look at it all I picture is this.

Hahaha! Just kidding man, I think it looks pretty bitchin. Stance is everything.

  21. the coupe certainly is looking ace, great stance, and neat looking back at it's subtle evolvement.

Quick question if I may, can you tell me more about that wheel/tyre combo you have now? especially the front runners?

    Cheers,

    Drewfus:)

Tanner it looks like you could straighten the grill out good enough for a while and stay on the road. Sort of like training wheels LMAO. John

Haha I agree! It's time will come!

    Thanks,

The fronts are 135r15 and the backs are 31x10.5x15.

Thanks Chris! Well I could already tell you Sam's sedan is faster. This thing is a slug with these gears (3.08). Sam's sedan would kick my ass! Haha

Ya it straightened out really well! Just some dumb kid in an old jalopy! He will figure it out quick enough with the cost of 34 grills. Haha

Well the coupe made one pass at Riverdale! It was my first time down the track and was a ton of fun! I even got to have a paint shop grudge race against Sam's (51farmtruck) 32' Sedan. He absolutely kick my ass! haha. I want to thank Chris (Lytes Garage) for taking some pictures of us on the track.
