Cars parked on the the Allegheny River in Pittsburgh across from where PNC Park (home of the Pittsburgh Pirates) is now located. The Iron City sign on Mt. Washington is still there but is still there but no longer says Iron City. Both bridges have since been replaced.

SouthUrn, this series of photos is simply B&W photo perfection to my eye. Those rich, subtle tones of grey can only come from film, a fine lens, and masterful work in the darkroom. Must be hundreds you've posted so far. Any info on them, who did the work, was it commissioned? Thx for the posts.

A Holden model 48-215 (commonly known as an FX) parked near the War Memorial on St. Kilda Rd, Melbourne. One of the really great avenues of the world.
Looks like summer with the windows down and the cowl vent up. The good old days with '4 x 40 air con' - ahhhhhh, the memories!!

  18. Sometimes it takes a slap in the face to remind us of the sacrifice made every day by our military. Doesn't matter if it was Libia in '43, or Iraq in '03, or Hue in '68. Godspeed boys...

  26. This was one of the best testimonials of the punishment the B-17's were capable of enduring, to come out of the war. The pilot had to make a very wide turn after delivering his bomb-load to avoid tearing off the tail.
Does anyone recall the fate of the tail-gunner?
