When all is said and done, I'll be happy to run low 13's high 12's =) I may just bypass the 327 and build a big block when the time comes! Posted using the Full Custom H.A.M.B. App!
That can be a cool wagon for sure. I like the two tone idea you've got going, but maybe try some more subtle color combos. That green is really loud! Wagons look best when they are smooth, low, and the lines really flow. Have fun!
Agreed! After seeing a***** load of cars with the new Camaro green lately, I'm not so sure I want that color for my car. Good thing is I won't be painting it any time soon, so who knows for sure what the final color will be till then! Posted using the Full Custom H.A.M.B. App!
I pulled off the rear bumper and did some "at home" straightening and polished it up a bit. Not perfect by any means, but all it cost me was a couple hours of my time. Posted using the Full Custom H.A.M.B. App!
Nice job on the bumper. Keep pecking at it and it'll be all shiny before you know it. I pulled the 454 out of my '64 wag and am now putting a 327 in. Big block really threw off the way it rode/handled. I'll try to attach a pic of a guy's wag with 283/4spd launching wheels up(!) on his way to a low 13 second run- Must be some serious gears behind that mighty mouse. Bob Willis, I believe. Keep having fun with it- fourspeedwagon
If it were mine... I'd repaint it white, after the body work. White or black stock steel wheels with dog dish hubcaps or steel wheels in back and some nice 5 spokes on the front. Keep the roof rack. Stock ride height or close to it. A couple vintage water slide decals in the windows. Stock black interior. Hopped up small block with vintage parts and a 4 speed. I love wagons.
Thanks fourspeedwagon! Did you leave the stock front springs in with that big block? Mine will be running the SBC 305 with the Saginaw 3spd for a while. My reasoning for the big block was to obtain bigger horse power on a more street able application. Trying to get the best of both worlds I suppose. Posted using the Full Custom H.A.M.B. App!
Best all round family car. I had 2 and loved them both.. If I had the room I'd be like some of those old timers that park what the had in the back 40.
So, I think I made a pretty good trade today. I had an LS1 Comp Cam that I was never gonna use so I traded it for a brand new water pump, complete distributor with 8mm wires, and a pretty good bench seat from a 2dr 68 Chevelle. Slowly but surely! Posted using the Full Custom H.A.M.B. App!
Yep, I left the stock small block springs in it. Probably dropped it down about 2 inches. It was pretty wobbly though- maybe a thicker sway bar would've helped. Never need an excuse to run a big block. I've had several, mines going back to a 327 because I couldn't justify the expense of upgrading everything that was only marginally fit for the bbc. Front suspension, cooling system, probably the rearend. It's Hard to find (read: expensive) a 12 bolt rear for that vintage because they are narrower than every other year. So, the guys with a later one want the slightly narrower size too, full size car doesn't fit and try to stumble across an early nova 12 bolt and you'll be looking for a while. A narrowed rear or 9in or whatever just is too much for my lil project. I went a bit over the top with the engine and that's my fault, It scared my wife/kids and that was the exact opposite of what I wanted to happen. It's a wagon because I wanted them to come with me and enjoy. Otherwise, it's kinda set up like MikeRose said. Black steel wheels, dog dish hubcaps, intact roof rack. The side trim was pretty dinged so I stripped it all off. Just a couple Smoky the Bear type stickers on the back. I'm back and forth between leaving the ride height or dropping it. Today I'm thinking full height..
I hear ya Fourspeed. For now, I'm just trying to get it on the road. I'm sure that the mild cam'd 305/3spd will do just fine for now. If I could find and afford some dog dish caps, I wouldn't hesitate! Posted using the Full Custom H.A.M.B. App!
Out with the old In with the (kinda) new Turns out that the 68 Chevelle seat is a direct fit! No modification what so ever! Posted using the Full Custom H.A.M.B. App!
Since I'm going with a 3spd on the floor, I'll be smoothing out the column by removing the gear selector fin and the shift lever mount And this is where I'm at now Posted using the Full Custom H.A.M.B. App!
So I've had this done for a while now. Just forgot to post the progress. But now I can't upload the picture! Standby!
I also scored a "running" 327 for $240! Gonna freshen it up and throw in the XE262 Comp cam that I was gonna run in the 305. Also made my Edelbrock RPM manifold look a little older. Posted using the Full Custom H.A.M.B. App!
Haven't been on here in a while. Work has been pretty busy. Anyways...... Been searching for parts and picked up a nice set of angle plug 492 heads. Already ported and polished and screw in rocker studs. Not going to run the XE262 cam any more. Think I'm going to go with the XE274 now. I also scored a nice set of 62' bel air poverty caps that I'll be running for a while! Slowly moving on!! Posted using the Full Custom H.A.M.B. App!
Got brand new headers for $100 and finally found a brake pedal****embly for $30 Posted using the Full Custom H.A.M.B. App!
