    FE= Ford Engine.

    The misnomer is it stands for Ford-Edsel, which in my opinion sounds better, but it just shows the lack of engineer creativity in name one of fords greatest series of engines.

    Nope, FE is the chemical symbol for Iron, of which there is a ton of in the damn intakes. Not so much in the blocks as the FE was the first family of engines to be m*** produced using thin wall casting techniques.

    Ahh.... Old threads brought back to life by newbies....

    Dragrcr50, Since it has been 7 years. Do you have finished pics of the car?

    Well thank you Mr Rogers, for the chemistry lesson, but if a thread ends with wrong information, even if its 7 yrs old, would you want the correct information?

    Who said it was wrong. I don't think it has ever been conclusively proven whether it stands for Ford Engine or Ford-Edsel. Even Wikipedia says it stands for Ford-Edsel and everything on Wikipedia is accurate....:rolleyes:

    Oh yeah, i forgot you cant put anything on the internet that isn't true.

    Every thing i have dug up, read in books ( not saying the author was correct) has called FE as Ford Engine.
    Anyone know anybody that works / worked at Ford that would know for sure?

    Anyway as long as it isn't the preverbal SBC RANT everything is gravy!

    YOUR rant is true about Fords winning those races, which just goes to show how much dumb luck can play in life, or winning races.......

    Good to hear your going with a 390 ford instead of another boring small block chevy

    FWIW, NO adapters are necessary for a successful engine to GOOD ****** match.

    '68 heavy 3 speed Ford toploader ******, bolted to 332-427 stick bellhousing; small or large bolt pattern on bell, transmission case has both patterns. Transmission also comes in wide-and-close ratio gears.

    Omit the side forks and plug the shaft bores...Drop a 9-bolt Jeep shift tower on top with big stick.

    Same can be done with the 4 speed Ford Borg-Warner. (Jeep also had a direct fit shift tower for the 4 speed)

    I really question the senseless prejudice toward these engines. It's obvious the 'haters' have no experience with them.

    Not to many things worse in my book than looking under the hood of a Ford and finding a SBC a dime a dozen
