Awesome work on the monte Carlo bar! Love posts like that :)

  2. Burnt out , I'm keen to hear your thoughts on how it drives with the bar fitted .Is noticeably "tighter" when you start getting on it in corners etc .
I'm considering fitting one to the '60 , it won't be a race car or anything close but one thing we do have plenty of down here is Corners !

I really noticed the bar! Less spongy

  4. I really dunno' yet, 4t6, I just drove it about 10 miles or so to make sure nothing rattled or shook and didn't really flog it.

Besides, I've still got a couple of holes to drill and bolts to install....

I will say that the "under engine brace" that I put on it DID make a big difference...look back about 8-10 pages to see that.

  5. Thanks , let us know what you think when you have a few "spirited" miles on it :)
I'm fitting a lower bar to the '60 also .

  6. Thanks , that's what I was hoping to hear . In theory it should stop everything
from walking around as much when it all gets thrown at a corner

  8. Wondering if anyone here would have a spare pair of back up lamps to suit a '60 they might sell me ?

Wifeys car is missing them . I have all the wiring etc , just no lamps to fill the holes in the rear panel

  9. Hehe , kinda ironic seeing an Aus/Kiwi engine in there ! Very cool and I'll bet it
    goes well!

It hasn't run yet and I still have a long way to go. But I'm hoping it goes good!

  11. I think you'll be surprised at how stout that 6 will be , Brother in laws daily is a '98 XR6 Tickford and it impresses me every time I drive it . I hauled a '40 Ford Tudor on a trailer behind it for about 100 miles and it performed well .

I have been wanting to do that, was hunting for the 302 mexican block but now I am ready to settle for just about any decent 302 and go from there.

  13. A unobtainium 302 Mexican block would be way cool but E7TE roller blocks and heads are cheap and plentiful..got my block n' heads offa' Craig's List for $175....

Disc kit from Scarebird. Master cylinder from a Maverick. Easy.

Until I finally bought my 250, I had a regular search for '86-up engines (and 221s, for all the exterior dress) on Craigslist. It seemed like the 5.0s came up pretty regularly every other month - usually a takeout from someone who was fitting a crate engine, a stroker, or a 351. Good luck!

Speaking of this: Does anyone have experience with Scarebird's four-lug-to-five-lug brake kit? I used their four-lug kit on my '62, but my wife's '61 is going to be a five-lug car.

From what I see it's the same kit but with a five lug hub and matching rotor. As long as you get a disc/drum master from a Maverick as the directions state, I seriously think you'll have anything to worry about. I absolutely LOVE my fourlug kit on the wagon, and I'm firmly convinced that it has saved my miserable tail twice so far.

I am running the 4-lug kit too. It rocks. Everything I have ever installed from Scarebird was Swiss-watch-precise.

I like the wheels, but I am thinking of them in 15", as the roads are rough here. That and painting the car in Gulf livery colors.

  24. Right! that's done it , I'm going out to chop the B pillars and door glass frames off the '60 !

    Great profile/stance Evilfalcon , I really like it .

I messed around trying to get a Photoshopped version of the '60-'62 roof to look like a Starliner top, but couldn't accomplish it with the stock rear window. If you had the ability to make a flatter rear window and lay it down, I think it could really look good.

I made some progress on the old bird yesterday :).
I am working on the fender pockets where the bumper will tuck neatly into.
Starting with the old paper templates.
