Had some grief today the CarQuest oil filter came appart while I was hand priming the oil system, its lucky I wasn't trying to start the rebuilt engine.Seems the filter was never crimped properly
Highly Recommend A Purolator Pure One oil filter. My son works for a major automobile manufacturer, and they have tested all the after market filters and found it to be best! It was followed closely by Wix and their privately labeled brands(Napa Gold). KK
Outstanding.Reminds me of the Corvair that a friend of mine built back in the `70s.327 mid engine with a PG and a Ford 9".Very nice handling setup. Good luck.Have fun.Be safe. Leo
YES! I'm pretty sure I'm gonna like this one- reminds me of a friends 455 tornado setup in a beetle, his biggest problem was that he'd get scared and let off the gas, then the front end would come slamming back to earth. Posted from my office while pretending to work!
Looks great, back in the 70's there was an orange corsa in town with a mid mounted 327, ran headers upside down through the missing rear window, rode in it once. Scared the living crap outta me! Man that thing was fast.
I'm not sure if he had a website about it. Confirmed with the famous Uncle- was a 425 Olds not 455 Posted from my office while pretending to work!
Have always loved the CORVAIR. I've owned about a dozen. To hell with Ralph Nader !!! As for 409's , big fan there too. Currently own beautiful '62 Bubbletop that's taken 20+ years for me to finish. GOOD FOR YOU!!
I always dug Corvairs and V dubs and have plenty. My favorite Corvair was the 62 coupe that we placed on a shortened 55 chevy chassis that had a 425 Olds and a 400 turbo in it. I drove it from the rear seat. Very peppy but the stance was too tall.
Your a very sick man.....very sick I love your w power vair........hats of and a salute to to you Dare to be different and cool at the same time Again....I salute you Great job
Today I adjusted the valves, not a big deal as the marine camshaft is hydraulic, I doubled up on meds today so I'll be ready for startup
This thread made me start shopping Corvairs …. thanks man I was lucky enough to have a crazy hot rodder neighbor when I was a kid …. he owned this thing for a short time. http://www.ridelust.com/1966-olds-toronado-twin/ Ill never forget riding in it …. I was about 9 or 10 at the time Iv had this overkill bug like your doing ever since
Nice job on this project. Best filters are Wix or Baldwin. But for break in on an engine, a cheap filter and the cheapest oil does the job. Not recommended for initial drive but drive way run it is the best practice. People don't realize how much metal comes off the cylinder walls. Again, kudos on the project!
I don't know if you've fired it up yet or not. There is a big conversation going on about break in oil now a days. I'm spending a little more to get Joe Gibbs racing break in oil. I have a NOS 283 I just built after it sitting in my garage for 23 years and want to be real careful with it. High zinc content is the big deal. Tim
Updates? The older 4 doors are my favorite vair and one with a v8 is especially my favorite. Ive been wanting to do something similar for a while now and just now saw this. Keep up the good work, I like it!
I have been working on the headers lately, they don't look real nice but they will get the job done. Also working on the wiring and shrouding around the radiator which is mounted in the trunk. Here's some pics of the homemade headers and my dash mounted heat gauge, (the most important gauge in the Corvair LOL)
That takes an exceptionally twisted, despicable mind sir............you are without a doubt........bananas. lol, love it.
