Laid up at home with a bad knee today so I might as well do something constructive. Here area bunch of images from a French website, these are mostly pace car related. Hopefully they have not been posted yet?

i think it had a 'sticker', or three - a hakenkreuz looks to have been erased from this copy and there was a three-pointed star on the nose.

    ............................... Sydney Harbour Bridge.......?
All seem to be fairly full-size cars (owned by the 'more prominent'(?)) - not many lightweights, so does that make it ......... perhaps, opening day?
    Cool pic.

^^^ Good eye, the caption did say opening day on the Sydney Harbour Bridge.

    Here's some more:

    From a Flickr site:
    The Automobile Association

This stage managed publicity image purports to show an A.A. motor cycle patrol man in full uniform making engine repairs to a broken down lorry whilst the driver of the lorry dressed in oil splattered overtrousers is seen using the phone in the A.A. telephone box No.150 at Pains Hill in Surrey (On A3?)

The photograph has been 'photoshopped' late 1950's style with obvious changes to the lorry's radiator presumably to prevent incurring the wrath of the manufacturer of the actual lorry (Bedford?) and to the registration plate to avoid upsetting the operaters of the lorry!

Note the very basic set of tools balanced on the underside of the lift up and fold over engine cover.

    The Automobile Association

A.A.Ford Escort Motorway Patrol Van 'XLY 802' c.1959.

The opening of the first parts of the UK Motorway network in 1958 & 1959 saw the A.A. introducing their Motorway Patrol service.

    The Automobile Association

Two A.A. Patrolmen are seen positioning a divers diversion sign and advising a driver on an alternative route as the road just ahead has been blocked by a fallen tree.

The location appears to be on the A 346 through the Savernake Forest towards Marlborough in Wiltshire.

Guessing that the van is a Morris and the car in front is a Standard?

These natty gentlemen (and one lady) are parked in front of Schuett and Schaaf, on Main Street in Woodstock Illinois (approximately where Woodstock Theater is located). Their sign says “Dealers in Farm Machinery, Carriages, Gasoline Engines. Later they added “Buick Dealer.”

"THE FINAL ASSEMBLY LINE IN A BIG AUTOMOBILE FACTORY
When cars were first built, all the parts were simply dumped in piles on the floor. Now the frame starts down one line, an engine block down another, a transmission and rear axle down others. When they all meet, they have each been assembled and are ready to be united into a complete chassis on the final assembly line.

2.5 liter hemi V-8, air cooled. 4 speed manual transmission on the column, room for 6. If you drive one, the shift is reversed, 1st is away and up, 4th is toward you and down.....takes a bit of getting used to.

I drove one at the Rally for the Lane museum a couple summers ago, a 1958 Tatra 603. Mine was red with a cream top.

This is the one I drove....

That's a Pierce Arrow with a fancy airplane hood ornament. Pretty unusual body style with that torpedo back. Maybe theOldMotor will tell us more. Are you listening David?
