Please find the attached pictures of more of Josh's handy work on the aluminum panels. He is being creative on the fly and demonstrating that he is not only talented , but has a great sense of style as well.

Josh has completed the trunk and is moving on to the dreaded big interior job with roof pans and drains...
We are still waiting on the custom arc 3.5 inch diameter stainless pipe to make side pipes out of. The company is difficult to deal with in regards to being non responsive and late on their delivery committment. Josh has plenty to keep him busy,...we are just interested/ excited to get to that part of the build.

    Regards,
    George

Ok...drivers side door blank cut by Josh and now he has to also think about the arm rest / door pull. The raised area at the bottom of the garnish molding is where the wing "bling" will be mounted.
    regards,
    George

Josh has added the perimeter step on the passenger door panel as well as the "wing" bling on the lower garnish molding reveal. He has the armrests "on order" and can not review or do anything additional on the panel until the armrest gets here and is installed. I really like the clean look. Josh might add a matching pattern like the ovals in the trunk???? We are in a wait and see mode for what might be best after the arm rests.
    Thank you Josh.
    Regards,
    George

I am at the Salt Flats and received pictures from Josh today. I am really thrilled and going to go back through Loveland to see the interior on the way home. I couldn't load more pictures or rotate and asked Rex to post more.

    George

Here are some more shots of Josh running the detail beads in the door panels. He started out with a simple lay out and after laying out a lot of sharpie lines he decided that some simple pleats would fit the panel nicely. Trying to keep the inside panels fairly simple.

    Progress Update:
I dropped in to visit Custom Auto this morning on my way back from Bonneville. Josh had completed both of the door panels and was working on the roof louvers "inside covers". The plan is to make them with ovals to match the style in the trunk and door panels. Josh is still adding the water drains as well.
We spent time discussing various details of the build as well as the vendors that are giving us so much trouble for deliveries. I have not mentioned the names and will not add them as they are not deliberately delaying their deliverable's. The poor performing suppliers are nice to deal with and actually TRYING. Poor employee performance, inability to follow written specifications and their own supplier issues have continued to both frustrate as well as aggravate Josh , Rex and Myself.
The gauges were silk screened with the wrong artwork that was to be pre approved BEFORE screens were made and the parts printed. The supplier said yes ,it was their fault and corrected two of the 3 issues without gaining approval AGAIN. ARGH. Then they shipped the gauges before we even knew it, they arrived with an AMP gauge instead of being updated to VOLTS. aw geeze. We even let them know it was an issue BEFORE they screwed up again.
The side pipe tubing fellows that had an order for over a month never entered it into their system. Week after week and nothing, but we were told over and over the order was in the Que. I finally escalated to the company President that said he didn't have the order, had not been pre-paid and knew nothing about it. The fellow that took the order DROPPED THE BALL. Big apology and a promise they would ship last week. Hard to do as they didn't have 3.5 inch stainless steel in stock. It finally arrives and they built one 50 plus inch pipe out of the 20ft stick and some how the balance of the material has dents and can not be used.????hmmmmm??????
Now I was told this morning that the material is due tomorrow and that they will ship the pipes out by Wednesday. We have been promised shipment every week for SIX WEEKS!!!! Sigh,..such an ordeal over a small order and it seems as though we have to be nice as we are afraid to push them for fear of being told to go away. another aw geeze!

My custom made "white" LED circuit cards for the tail lamps came in and guess what?..... they illuminate "RED".... even another aw geeze and the fellow from the company said that their engineer must be color blind. So sorry..we will rebuild and ship to you at the end of August.

We are continuing on with great progress despite the "aw geeze" issues.

I am NOT holding my breath over the re manufactured lens retention springs that are due in another week. I am hopeful that they will be done correctly and on time,...but who knows??? smile

    Regards,
    George

Please find the attached picture from Josh this afternoon. It is of the roughed in louver drain pan. Each of the ovals line up with the row of louvers directly above. Note that the definition of the oval is first pass and will be worked on by Josh to get it where it needs to be.
    Regards,
    George

P.S. THE SIDE PIPES SHIPPED TODAY!

I received a little more good news over night from Taiwan. The test board , called a "bread board" has been completed and is now functional.

    http://youtu.be/6VO2oTpr4Sc

It will be converted to the circuit card that you can see in the drawing on the table.

The engineer is demonstrating the function in the video. I am excited as they took the time in the "do over' to calculate the current draw and upgrade the driver to handle the larger load needed over the previous red output LED's.

    Regards,

    George

Well, it is hard to tell much from the attached picture of the side pipe being held up for an idea???? What I can see, is that the collector output angle will need the be changed and the side pipe finish improved. Other than that...hmmm, just not enough there to tell if what we have is going to work?
I will be in Loveland tomorrow and look forward to seeing it. My first impression is that it seems a little anemic. A heat shield might help and also keep a few burns from happening!

The good news is that Josh has something to work with.

    Regards,
    George

I had a great weekend visiting Loveland . I was attending the Blue Light Show with friends. We did the 2 shop tours...Pinky's and Custom Auto. The best thing was being able to see the side pipes and find that they are going to work out fine without too much pain for Josh.

Additionally, Josh had the louver inner panel "water tray" mounted as well as the first section of the roof header "surround". It will take some pick and bump work to get rid of the woody wood pecker tracks. BUT, it looks great just the same! See what you think?

    Regards,
    George

Here's the drivers side upper interior piece Josh has fabricated and installed. PLUS: Josh has started on the rear of the interior with a one piece "movie screen". smile. It will have an opening cut for the window/ garnish molding and then more matching detail rolled in.

Josh is hanging in there as this is getting close to the end of his fabrication effort. The rear upper quarter head liner pieces will be the last complex effort as he will need to get the three dimensional corners pounded out.

It is getting smaller and smaller in there!

    Regards,
    George

It has been a tough couple of days with regards to both tail light bezel plating and tail light lens retention springs. I called both companies this week to follow up on progress and expedite deliveries.

The plating shop states they never received the delivery that UPS has a signed receipt for. It has been 4 weeks. The fellow called back and said ..."OH , I found them". He will try to get to them next week.

The spring company salesman was out of town and the customer service people had never heard of me. After some searching, the account service person informed me that they were waiting on my contact information before they could enter the order. Note: All required information was provided in writing on July 22nd. A few hours later I received a note from someone that apoligized for the "confusion" . There was no confusion. They dropped the ball.

This was the same story on the side pipes. While we did finally receive them, they were poorly packaged and incurred shipping damage that has to be corrected.

Fortunately, none of these delays are hurting the Coupe build progress. Josh has been busy on the interior and the side pipe work can come afterwards.
The NEED DATE for the delayed gauges, tail light LED circuit cards, lens retention springs and bezels after plating is all still about 8 weeks away.

The message here is to plan ahead, follow up and be patient!

    Regards,
    George

If you guys don't mind pictures of electronics .....the white output LED tail lights
Will be here next week. I have to put them in the lathe and cut off the clear housing. After that , I will use optically clear resin to fill around the LED's to insure the circuits are protected against moisture.

    David,
How about this one then? .04 amps on 22 circuits off the power buss . The LED is 3.5 volts,

    David,
Since current draw isn't additive.... It is 22 circuits x .04 amps = .880 amps per tail light circuit card assembly. For comparison, an 1157 bulb draws 2.1 amps.
The 44 LED'S will be much brighter, they do not get hot, last a lonnnngggggg time and will look great and will make my blue dot really shine!

See if this passes your electronics bench racing ?

    Grin!

Josh finished his drivers side rear interior panel today. He also cut in the battery cut off where you can get to it easily. The speakers were originally planned for the corners. That didn't work out as there just wasn't enough room!
