just wondering what is best way to fix chrome slots hiting on drum weights grind them down, remove them ,or use wheel spacers thanks
My 2 cents, and I can't guarantee it, but I think the drum would fit behind the wheel on most of the dynamic spin balancers I have used. If so, I suggest removing the drum weight and balancing the tire/wheel and drum together. Obviously, you need index marks so that the wheel and drum stay in the same relationship on the car.
I would go with the thinnest spacer available like these from Summit........... http://www.summitracing.com/parts/joe-38120/overview/
Thin spacers are available from a lot of sources and probably at you local tire store that installs a lot of custom wheels. I'd put a set of matching thickness flat washers on the studs to see exactly what thickness of spacer I needed and go get or order the spacers. Knocking the weights off the drums might seem like the easy way out but it will create a big pain in the *** every time you have to do anything with the wheels and tires on the car from now on out. I would not drive it with the flat washers though, that is just to calculate the thickness of spacer you need.
Depending on how thick a spacer you need and the type of lug nut you are using, you may have to put in longer studs.
I had access to a front end shop that balanced the wheels and tires on the car and never had any problems. I would try to find out if there is any old time shops or HAMB member out your way that can do this before grinding the balance weights off. Jim.T.
