Read through the rules, seems easy enough. I don't shy away from challenges and don't think this will even be one. The majority of the casualties will be from the "fringe". Tim

What about air bags or bagged cars ( mine included ) there seem too be quite the following with low stance and laying it on the ground. Will they be excluded from the forums ?

As Metal Man said, I too am cautiously optimistic. I can see where this can make an already great place to hang out even better. My heart truly is in Traditional cars to a very large extent, but it is hard to ignore certain elements of modernity that do nothing but improve the car's use IF properly hidden. I'm hoping there is still gonna be room here for that sort of thought process. Either way, I'm still "IN"...

You are going to like the new direction. However, I view the world entirely opposite of you - I think. I've always felt you held a grudge against folks that don't do something absolutely traditional. I don't at all... I'm a car guy and like just about anything with wheels - especially if it goes fast.

And people are people. Different strokes for different folks. That's what makes the world go round.

That said, this place needs to be more focused on the original intent. And that's what I am doing.

No commercial posts... Like, "Hey, buy my shit!"

What old hot rod magazines have you been reading? There were plenty of hot rod trucks built in the 50's and 60's. I love me some trucks.

This has always been a tricky one for me as I love some cars to sit really low. In fact, I've owned a number of cars on bags. That said, we won't be covering that kind of tech any longer. However, some cars might get away with it if not expressively featured here.

We will see... We are gonna pretty big hard asses about it all. How hard is a matter of opinion I guess. The future is really unknown at this point. We are going places.

Much of this will make a lot more sense next week I think. Like I said, some structural changes are going to make all of this a little more straight forward.

You are right! It's your house and you can burn it down if you want. Does this mean Zibo's low buck '40 build is gone? Filled with modern tech applied with junkyard tradition. About the most blurred line I can think of. As traditional as it gets but not period correct. That would be sad. I hope you can make a few of the lines warm and fuzzy.

That one will prolly make it past the cut as Zibo has a long history of really valuable threads and I like his ways a lot. I will have a way of handling threads like this soon. But no, threads like Zibo's won't be the norm... At all.

    .........

    I should also mention...

I NEED HELP FROM YOU GUYS!!!!

I'm not telling you to go hunting for bad threads as frankly, I probably couldn't handle the result at the moment. But if you see them, please report them.

    Thanks!

Honestly not many, My collection is pretty small. I'd have to wear gloves every time I looked at them to keep grease marks off the pages, so it's never been a big item for me. Honestly most of my data on trucks being shunned comes from this very site and a few comments I've gotten from old timers when out and about.

I await the actual update so this makes more sense.

thanks again. I'm looking forward to the new sleeker hamb...without all the dead weight.

I'll be interested to see how this changes things-as well as who stays and who goes. I think there'll be ongoing discussions or revaluations about what is traditional.

Is a steel body with 'glas fenders traditional? 12 volts, alternators, 2 stage paint or even OneShot? Radial tires, electronic ignition, nylon carpeting? Seems there will be lots of grey areas and Ryan will need to delete a lot of posts until we all figure out what's-well I was going to say Kosher, but...-okay.

I look forward to the change. It's getting harder to filter through the "other" stuff and read the high quality threads the HAMB was all about years ago.

I'll clear it up for you. Your truck is exactly the kind of hot rod we want to focus more on. Now shut up and go work on that damned thing. :)

Ryan - Coincidentally, this past weekend went and got my father's old (c. 1950) Royal typewriter out of where it had been stored for several years and brought it into the house. Dusted it off and now have it on the top of a low bookshelf. What a wonderful piece of equipment, with everything so well engineered and built. It needs a new ribbon, and then we will see how it works.

You are over thinking it all in my opinion. Cars will alternators will stay so long as the car has a traditional essence and the owner doesn't mind us bagging on his alternator a little...

    Electronic ignition? Who would know?

    Nylon Carpeting? Really man?

There are certainly grey areas and in some cases it's gonna be trial and error to figure it out. However, the audience I really want to focus on is the guy that understands the essence of a traditional hot rod and custom. Those that don't share our same definition will probably get pretty frustrated... and that sucks, but it is what it is.

Just my 2 cents, but there is alot of good tech innold threads on here. Non-traditional stuff like bags, t5 swaps, etc. It would be a shame for that info to be lost. I personally think closing the threads but not deleting them is the way to go. No reason to destroy knowledge. Being closed they wont come to the top, but they will still be searchable. I love slammed kustoms, but they are imposible to own where I live without bags. And i have found alot of info here.

So my plead is Ryan, please don't "burn the books" so to speak.

Now pay no attention to the T-5 behind the curtain.....nothing to see here.....oh look a butterfly!

Damn, guess the 283 gets built sooner than later.....

Kinda curious what direction the drag racing and Bonneville threads will go.
Street Freaks (aka Street Gassers) were a post 65 deal too.

Will you keep what is already here in archive? There is some amazing threads here that deal with non-traditional subjects that are the best on the net over that subject.

For example: I think it was Lux Blue who did a thread on camaro clips in 55-59 Chevy PU's.. also all the T-5 Tech...

It's your baby, do as you see fit, but there is a lot of great not-so-traditional information here, it would be a shame if it would be gone.

    Ryan -

I applaud your updates to the Read This First! post ... it does a better job of clarifying what the H.A.M.B. is supposed to be about ... Obviously the term "TRADITIONAL" means something different to just about everyone ... but now folks should have no problem understanding what you & the H.A.M.B. staff define as a "Traditional Hot Rod or Custom" ... and if they don't like it, they can certainly start their own website.

While I'm not resistant to change, I sure hope you are not adding the "User Reputation", "Like", or "Mention" features that so many of the other vBulletin based forums have added ... A couple of the other Automotive discussion forums that I frequent (much smaller than the H.A.M.B.) added these features ... and at first, I thought they were kinda cool and useful tools ... but within a few months of implementation, both of these forums became so "drama-laden" that I lost interest in contributing to any of the discussions (i.e., today I only lurk and/or exchange PMs on those forums).

Ryan it has been said that some will be leaving here due to their rides not fitting the form, does this mean they will leave on their own?

Will people still be able to belong even though their ride does not fit the mold?
Love the site, and enjoy all the posts, tech articles, Henry.
