I do the same thing on my personal projects buying & selling parts & cars some times. I have a cheapo spiral binder you by at the store (just as school starts they are on sale for cheap last year I bought them for 10 for a dollar) I also use the binders on customer projects keeping track of hrs, parts or materials bought ect. That way I have an easy access to go over on any project I am working on. Keep the thread going & more pictures it will be a nice ride when done.

Remind me to hold onto my wallet and shirt if I deal with you guys. :D

Your gal sounds like the kinda lady who could fall into a vat of pig shit and come out clean as a whistle and smelling like a rose.

They're getting terribly hard to come by 'round these parts. ;)

The car looks awesome. All the more so when you consider its "humble" beginnings.

BTW, you might only have $1 of capital invested in it, but if you set down and tally up all your labor, you will find that you've invested a shitload of "sweat equity" in that bad boy.

    It all has value.

Very cool story! The patience alone it would take to do this is mind-blowing to me. I'm already getting antsy...... Hurry up, I need to see more!!

Pretty creative for sure. Subscribed and looking forward to seeing progress on her car. Its great to have a lady who not only understands and accepts your passion but participates herself. I think that is so cool. Better take good care of that gal.
My wife is totally supportive of me having a hotrod and understands my mindset. Not to mention that she occasionally street raced my 429 Ford powered, toploader 4 speed equipped '56 F100 in San Diego back in the late '90s and never lost a race. Ladies like ours are very special for sure.

OahuEli did some amazing work in Photoshop for us to visualize the paint scheme that Rachel has in mind and I wanted to repost the pics he did for us here.

Once again, this is the original pic

Here's the first one with light over the darker bottom, like the Hirohata Mercury.

And dark over light, which is the one I think I like the best.

I showed these to her, she was super impressed, she was also curious to know what the car would look like with the top of the roof the same color as the lower part.

I don't have the Photoshop skills to do what Eli did above but I did figure out how to change the roof color in his pics so here's the best I could do.

This first one I actually like, this was Rachel's first idea, to have the roof match the bottom part but leave the pillar area in the light color.

This second one is with the colors flipped. My roof color turned out kind of grey so it's not a very good example, I'm not that good at it, but it give some kind of idea.

Maybe it's just my bad colors, but I don't think the two tone roof works as well with the light over the dark. If the majority of the body is going to be dark green, I feel like the roof should be, too, and that one is still my favorite. But the dark green on the roof and bottom with the light over the rest still looks pretty good, I could go that way too.

It's Rachel's car and she will have the final say, but if anyone wants to share what their favorite paint scheme is, feel free.

Definitely, and we do have a lot of time into the project at this point. That has kind of become our end goal, to show that if someone wants it bad enough, a car can be built purely on effort without any money invested. You don't have to be rich to be a hot rodder, you just have to be willing to put in the work.

Squablow, The light body w/the dark lower and roof looks magical, even if only photoshop rendered. I did try to imagine the window risers, painted in roof color, for either color scheme. Going to be a good looking driver!

  27. Great story. Very inspirational. Building on a tight budget myself, I gotta sell to buy as well. I also have a bad surfboard addiction. The photo below gets my vote. Good Luck! :D
