Projects Giant speedster project

  1. There once was a man with a Seagrave
Who thought that a Speedster'd be a fave
    He innovated as he went
To the HAMB, photos he sent
And our interest he did enslave.

There was a young man named McSweeney
Who dropped some gin on his weenie.
    Being very uncouth,
    He added vermouth,
And offered his date a martini.

    Jerry,
Real nice looking results. But here comes my 2 cents again (we must be up to about a dollar's worth by now). How about some engine turning on that brass plate? If not that, how about a thin decorative border around the circumference? A simple pattern can be created using nothing more than a Dremel tool (on a flex cable) with a diamond bit. Just a thought. Just might look a little more period, I'm thinking.

    Who had a remarkable ass.
Now it was`nt rounded and pink

There was a girl from Port Aux Basques...
Who went in the water up to her knees.

It will rhyme eventually... just wait for the tide to come in...

I guess that'll teach me not to post anything serious in the middle of a limerick contest.

    His daughter, named Nan
    Ran away with a man

Paw followed the pair to Pawtucket
The girl and the man and the bucket
    Her father said, "Man,
    You can have daughter Nan"
But as for the bucket, Pawtucket.

There was a man named Moby Dick, who had a corkscrew prick
He looked the world over to find, a girl with a corkscrew behind
When he found her he fell dead, because she had a left hand thread

Jack Innes sent me an excellent source. And then there's Mel Draper. And then there's me. I made this hurried affair for Alex's little REO about 8 years ago.

A man built a speedster for luck
From the shards of an old firetruck
    His friends on the HAMB
    All lent a hand
Besides them, nobody gave a buck

    Hey--Alex might read this. :)

Maybe so Jerry, but there are a bunch of us saving our spare change. :p

  19. Jerry, If you don't engine turn the brass on the instrument cluster you could always engrave it like you did with the aluminum.

And in a similar vein, what word starts with 'F' and ends with 'UCK'? Firetruck.

I forwarded it to the English department at UGA to consider for publication in their new collection of emerging American poets.

    Tax Time

Property tax that is. This is worse than the IRS. At least the IRS takes a little out year round so you don't feel it. Property tax hits all at once and in my case it's about 12K. I always struggle to come up with that money. I've got this MGTC that I bought about 30 years ago. I haven't driven it in about 5 years and it was full of dust and cobwebs. I thought--I'll just sell the damn thing, pay my taxes and have some money left over for new speedster tires. I had to rebuild the brakes and clean out the carbs. It fired right up and ran sweet. On the way to a clean up shop I thought about when I took my dad to see an MGTD I wanted real bad for my first car. "You're not buying a car with wooden floor boards!" he said. Of course I wasn't happy until I got one. Took 20 more years. After the TC was shined up it looked like a million. Damn, I hate to sell it now. It's the 21st TC built. The 10th oldest in existence. Maybe there's another way. What? You want to here about the speedster? Oh. Well, let's see. I worked on the light switch. I couldn't have that nasty steel plate next to my pretty brass dash. Hope I can get that switch back together. I think I will etch something into the dash but I'm not sure what. I'll need some nitric acid for that. Oohhh! That will be fun!

The Amelia Island crowd might drool over that TC. Looks vintage.

At least we now know where you got the wooden floorboard idea from.

    Front Page News!

Hey, tonight I noticed the Giant Speedster Project is on page one. Someone must have gotten cancelled. I've been busy trying to raise tax money without selling the TC. Also I've been trying to fix the wife's lawn tractor. Yes, she mows the lawn. I hate grass. And lawn mowers too. But I try to work at least a few hours on the speedster. My goal is to make the beast able to start up and move on command. This means coolant, electrical etc. There are two hose clamps up by the radiator that I had to use modern on. Not good. They're big and I could never find a Sherman clamp that size. Today I attempted to make my own clamp. I just kind of winged it. The pictures speak for themselves. It didn't come out too bad except my brazing kept bubbling. I fiddled with the gas mixture but no good. Maybe I should have silver soldered it. I wonder if it was the silicon bronze rod I used for the screw part? I think I'll put the screw part down and hide my not so pretty brazing.

I like your clamp and hope it can take the stress. I forget where, but I've seen radiator clamp covers, which hide the ugly parts and come in a variety of colors.

Or set up a brass electro-plating tank, I'm surprised you don't have one already.

  28. The man makes his own custom hose clamps.

Who else here fabricates their own hose clamps from scratch?

Yeah... I didn't think so.

Hmm...I hear that Ted Kaczynski used to make his own screws. Should we be worried? :D

Naw, Kaczynski was crazy. Jerry just builds a crazy speedster from a firetruck a subtle but definite difference. I think.
