Well I have been lurking around for a bit now. Thought it might be about time to introduce my project. I have built a few cars and trucks but never one this style. I am definetly loving the style and learning what I have and can. So here are a few pics of where I am at. Let me know if you see anything that might need changed. This is a scratch built roadster p/u. Going for a mid fiftys traditional car. Or as much as I can with the finances at hand.

Here is a late 50s early 60 build I just found. Note that it looks pretty low for the 50s, but still can actually be driven without getting hung up under the middle. 12" rear kick which is very unusual for an early build.

You say you never built one before, so I am just giving a bit of a hint to keep the car from laying frame...if you want a more pleasant and safer ride.

Thank you F&J The tires that I have on it in the picture are way smaller than the ones I am running. Plus the side panels hadn't been rolled yet. Actual chassis height is 3.5 inches of center height. I like that build that kicks ass. Thanks for the pics and insight.

  7. Well I can Dig doing a Hand Built car. I've done plenty and still at it. Good on ya for that. Only because You say your "Going for mid fiftys traditional car" will I say your Way off base. You asked "what to change". Well first the engine. No body used in line 6 in the 50's. Then there's that mile high Kick, we didn't do that. There was plenty of Model A frames around. That's what we used. Once hand built rectangle tube came on the scene nobody did lap joints on there kicks. We always did a mitered joint, they just look better. Then there is the Body. Definatly not 50"s stuff. Now that's my personal time dated memory and You asked what might need changed. On the other hand what your doing is just fine for a Home Built Car. It's your version of Kool and what you can afford. Nothing wrong with that, it's just nothing like a 50's Rod would have been. Keep up what your doing and go have fun when your done.

  12. You can call it anything you want. Just know that each Generation has there own vision of Old School. From my personal point of view what you have is Your version of what used to be and hand built by You. That I can get behind.
