We are right smack dab in the middle of the planned changes. Lots done, lots to do... So far, I like what I see and like how it's working. That said, if it fails, it fails... and I'll go back to the drawing board.

As for folks suggesting this is financially motivated... It's not. I don't see the reasoning there at all.

And as for folks suggesting this is an "us vs. them" thing... Well, that's a you problem. There is no "us vs. them" angle at all here. No forum is more special than the other... I have two cars that fit in the "styled & stock" forum and one that would fit in the Trad Hot Rod forum. Our moderators each have cars in each category. The "us vs. them" thing just doesn't exist.

Well, maybe it does... Maybe "us" is the people that provide great content and the "them" is the people that have used the HAMB as some weird version of Facebook in the past.

Seriously folks, why in the hell would I create some environment where one group is out to get another? That makes no sense to me.

At the end of the day, if you want to the HAMB exactly as it was, you can still have it. It's just a click away.

I'm moving forward in hopes this continues to progress as it has. But like I said, if it doesn't and everything goes to **** - I'll figure something else out.

  2. I cannot seem to find threads either that I was following, at first I thought the general discussion board was to remain as is and be a place for a little loosey gooseyness..and the new sub forums were where the rules would be ultra strict...which is fine by me

I applaud the effort being put forth by the management, but am having some issues understanding the format

    http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=831257

Just read it... And you'll learn everything you need to know.

    ..........

Aside from all of this hub hub, have you guys checked out these forums at all?

    Traditional Hot Rods

    Traditional Customs

Traditionally "Styled" Hot Rods, Customs, and Production cars

It is quite literally thread after thread of ON TOPIC goodness. It makes me smile just looking at them. If you are into old cars, I don't see how you couldn't like that ****! I'm tickled.

It is good. I like how if I want a little of everything, (stock) or a mix of cars, (3/4 race) it's there. And when I'm in the mood to filter out everything except the pure stuff, (full race) it's there.

  8. The whole time I've been a member here I log in and click on "new posts". Then I scroll down and click on the **** that interests me. I don't normally click on BS topics therefor I have no reason to make *****y posts whining about how this or that dosn't fit the HAMB agenda. I don't claim to understand the reasoning for everything that goes on like why vintage Funny Car threads get the axe while ****in motorhomes are allowed to stay but like I said, don't click on stuff you don't want to read about. I still do it the same way I always have. Change ? What change ? I will say that making things too rigid completely goes against what hotrodding is "traditionally" all about. To me it's about creativity and innovation and making your stuff YOURS. I'm currently building a 56 Chebby stepside. Gonna have a carbureted SBC engine, old school 5 spoke American Racing type mags that were most likely made in the early 60s, none of that flat Black ratrod bulll****, but a 700R4 ****** because I like to take my **** on trips. I don't give a rats *** if some crusty old timer who is stuck in the 40s thinks my truck ****s because of the transmission I choose to run in it and I sure as hell ain't gonna buy a "manual" telling me how it HAS to be built to satisfy someone elses idea of what cons***utes a hotrod. I ***ume of course, that it would fall into the traditionally styled category but admittedly this whole "category" thing has my head spinning a little. Other than that I'm good.. LoL

There will always be the ones that complain even if you GIVE them a crisp new $100.00 bill

If no one complained, I wouldn't have balanced feedback man. I'm seriously totally cool with it... and actually, appreciate it.

Just reading the coments I can see both sides of the coin.

I think for the people that don't like all the categories most likely don't like them because there is no one stop shopping feel anymore where they could log on as before and look at all the threads under one big roof. I definatley might be one of these people but I will get use to it if it has to be like that.

The traditionallists are definately happy happy happy. No longer will they need to look at cars that they consider none traditional and they will probably only hang out in the subcategories that pertain to a car being 100 percent traditional.

It definately feels a little segregated. I think I will miss the feeling of all of us being in one big room and talking and helping each other out.

One thing that I am confused about is where I will post my questions about my 55 g***er restore? The only thing that is not traditional about my car is the fact that I (by law) in my country have to run radial tires. that is the only thing that is not traditional. So where do I post my questions, changes, and celebrations?

Dude, it's still a "one stop shop." Check it:
    http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=59

By law you have to run radial tires? **** man... Ya'll drink a lot of Vodka over there? :)

A stock restoration would go in the "styled and stock" forum.

Canada is definately different man than the states. I would love to run pie crusts and period correct tires but that would be a huge heat score with tickets...

  16. You need to check your facts. The laws in Ontario regarding tires are the same across Canada. It comes under the federal ministry of transportation. There is not and never was any law banning bias ply tires.

I'll say it again. It is not rocket science guys. Do you all have one giant box on your garage floor that all your tools get thrown in to? No, of course not. You have drawers for each kind or type. Think of the new changes in that respect. Even some of the guys that just a week ago were crying that they felt left out or abandoned, are now seeing it differently. It works.

I think the new format is great. The whole reason I signed up here in the first place was for the great tech and information, knowledge that is not strictly applicable to 100 percent traditional rods. If the forum had stayed as only one open forum with a hard line in the sand a lot of guys with "close but not quite" 100 percent cars may have left and taken their knowledge with them.
Now everyone has their own room and the ******** guys dont have to complain about reading questions about a 700r4 or T5. As I read it all the builds in the "traditional only" forums better have parts or design that is 1965 or older. Simple and easy to understand. Hell I dont even have a completely traditional car but you can bet when the time comes to build one I will be going through those ******** forums for ideas and info. For now I will play in the "traditional styled" forum since I love old car looks but want some newer updates to go along.
I realize this site was originally one forum with the line in the sand but think how much more great info and knowledge will be shared just by having the "traditionally styled" forum, stuff that may not have been posted before for fear of getting tossed out. No easter egg street rods, just good sound info to update your hot rod if you want to.
I dont know what the ******** guys in the traditional forum are going to do for entertainment anymore with nobody to pick on for running a 700r4 or electric fan!

All the people saying "if you want the old forum, just go to the big one" are missing the point. Things needed tightening up - getting rid of the R-R stuff, the "I know this is O/T but..." threads and other irrelevant junk - but now that one appears exactly how it was, which was getting diluted. It seems to me that instead of kicking out the ****, the cool stuff has run away in different directions.

Anyway, hard hat on and ducking down in the trenches - just offering my opinion, the same as the "if you don't like it, **** off" crowd.

I dont even look at the catch all forum, I just go to the traditional styled forum. The hard core guys got their wish, a forum with nothing but completely traditional subjects for the rods and for the customs. Now watch the post counts and see which forum grows faster!

Exactly, its just like when you were a kid and you came inside from playing and found your mother had cleaned up your room. Everything is still here, it just isn't ****tered all over the floor and is put in its proper places. Don't worry, she didn't find your secret stash of *******'s.

Actually... The whole point of this change was to create a more efficient way to get rid of the "junk" threads more efficiently. So far, it's working like gang busters in that aspect.

I guarantee you the "styled and stock" forum will be the most popular after the aggregate. In fact, I'd bet my mortgage on it... And to me, there is nothing at all wrong with that so long as we keep those threads on topic and traditionally focused.

I've been spending a lot of time moving old threads (a job that I will never finish) and have stumbled upon so many great threads from the last 6 months that I missed. Keep in mind I'm on this forum at least 6 hours a day... and I missed great threads. That's a REAL problem.

Fair enough. You can see the bigger picture of the changes, and I hope it all pans out for the better.

I really like the new changes ...

Even in this thread, we trads are called "crusty old ****s". It is there, and it pisses me off. It was said by some guy justifying his build HIS way. I was sick of the modern **** overwhelming the main board, and the trad guys getting **** for OUR ways/ Those guys were on the wrong site, not us.

Now they have a place, as do we.

    Perfect.

...and I still read the "main board", but only after I go through the trad hotrod site first, so I can't miss something good for my tastes, in case I don't have a lot of time.. Then I go to see what EVERYONE is building. No problem now, as they are on their correct site as well.

    perfect balance
