I have had a GPS (Garman) for a few years...2008, and I just learned that when it is on the "view maps" screen, if you press on the "speed" area on the screen, another screen pops up that has a larger speedometer and ODOMETER and TRIP ODOMETER and other neat stuff on it! Check your GPS out........I'm probably not the only putertard on here.
i unhooked my speedo cable after 3 attempts at getting a sharp bend out of it that i use my garman exclusively for that...so accurate too!!
I have "Speed View" on my Droid... I've checked it against my truck and its pretty much dead on. I used the 1/4 et deal once and it was about a tenth or two off which I thought was pretty good for a phone.
Put a gps speedo in my bluebird bus. Works great! Don't work in tunnels though. Posted using the Full Custom H.A.M.B. App!
My mom drove her 1988 turbo coupe in drive for months because she didnt know what the d with a circle around it meant.
I have a gps speedometer downloaded on my phone. It works great in roadsters but has interference in anything with a roof.
I've got an Android phone & I've been using a speedometer app I downloaded to check my car. It is a '71 hardtop & works fine inside.
I have over 400,000 miles on one of my transport trucks using the gps as speedo since I put the 5 speed trans in it that was setup for electronic speedo & truck uses cable style
Car Performance speedo app works great on my android phone. Posted using the Full Custom H.A.M.B. App!
Unsure of your application - but did you know that you can get a right angle gear box for tight situations for speedo cables?
The main focus of my post was the odometer and the trip odometer on the GPS. Do some of the smart phones have apps for an odometer feature?
Speed View Pro logs: Total Distance Moving Time Stoppeed Time Total Time Moving Average (mph) Overall Average (mph) 0-60 mph time 1/4 mile time Also has a compass and a little chart to see speed vs time Of course.... you have to have the app turned on to log milage, and if you use it in multiple cars it will total everything, etc...
It may be used to enforce speed zones someday. All electronics (email, phone, computer key strokes, ect) are data stored. So use caution for this application.
I once lived for 7 years in an apartment when I was single. I was moving out and was on the phone with my soon-to-be wife. She asked me if I made sure the dishwasher was cleaned out inside. I told her there wasn't one. She said there has to be...so I looked and sure enough there was! Those were the good old days when I only owned one fork and one spoon. Now I have lots and there are a bunch I am not even allowed to use .
