My son took out the mk2 in his car and is putting in a dropped axle and wants wide 5's. Is there any source of NEW drums? I have 5 sets that are paper thin.

Not that I know of, but there are plenty of good used ones out there, swap meets they can be had for a $25 bill or so

Joblot in NY used to sell new 37-39 drums, might still?

I've never seen a $25 bill. I'd be a little wary if I did see one.

There is no source for new drums yet. There is also nobody to do a re-line either. There are still quite a few sets of these out there and you can use 37-39 drums. I think the rear may be the same for 36-39. 39 was the year for juice brakes, and other years were all mechanical.

I wish that someone would start making these drums or at least re-lining them, but nothing I know of yet.

If you're running caps then you could easily do a new 5 on 5.5 drum + an adapter. I know of several cars doing this and you'd never know unless you pulled a cap.

That said, I understand the want to have dedicated wide 5 drums.

  8. I believe the ones Joblot had were NOS ones, the last time I talked to John at Joblot he said they sold what they had. That was last summer.

Too bad he changed the front end...I have a brand new set of adapters to go from 4.5 bolt to wide five bolt pattern I have all four and would sell for $200 including shpg. 231 798 9709 Ted

I would be interested in the paper thin ones if they are the one piece type. Jim
