Hey guys i need a little help,i just lowered the rear in my 54 chevy bel air took it down 3'' on blocks,the question is can i use the same original shocks or do have to get shorter ones?

How did you get the junk you needed, I wound up having u bolts made and built my own blocks... Couldn't find anything readily available... What are you gonna do about the front? If your anything like me your tail dragging around town and the rear view mirror will only show you the ceiling? ( I still need to drop the front) Posted using the Full Custom H.A.M.B. App!
I recently bought the car, the guy i bought it from had everything blocks and u bolts,the front springs i cut 2 coils out of and just ordered the shorter shocks for the front today,the only thing i noticed when i lowered the car down the front passanger side is about 1'' lower than the drivers side maybe the spring is not seated i have to investigate that.I really like the stance now!
I removed two of the bottom leaves, which de-arched the springs some and used a 1 1/2" lowering block. I ended up in the same place I was with the 3" block and it handled and rode better. Also, the shocks from a 2000 Crown Vic controlled rear end bounce better than the stock shocks. I had to press a couple of bushings into the lower rubber to make it work. Pretty sure I used pieces of schedule 40 3/8" pipe.
Would have been slammed! Did you have to notch the chassis? Or raise the tunnel? I have a 51' in transport, will be a few weeks off and I am excited to slam it even more than it is. what is the lowest any of you guys have gone without notching or raising the floor? Thanks!
1 and a half coil cut up front, and I used pep boys 3" block kit had to re drill the guide pin in it, but a little effort netted good results. Search my previous post, my 54 is in there somewhere....
Are you having any issues with the axle hitting the frame? Pumpkin hitting the trunk? I have blocks in the rear on mine, I think 3". I didn't really think mine was all that low, but I had to notch the frame and now the pumpkin hits the trunk... (yes I have a fetish for pink bicycles)
Mine only hit if I had people in the back seat and cooler of oat sodas in the trunk! I went to NAPA and put air shocks in the rear and ran the schrader valve to the license plate bolt for easy adjustments Posted using the Full Custom H.A.M.B. App!
Sorry to hijack, but how far can you go in the rear before it hits? I am running a 3" block right now but would like to go 4" to 5". I am still running the closed drive line and i have heard that anymore than 3" and the diff fluid will run down the shaft tube....... M-
I can only speak from experience with the 3" blocks. I've heard tht S-10 Rear ends are almost perfect replacement and cheap. I would think that any more than 3" would cause frame to axle clearance issues maybe call Alex at Gambino's he has this shit nailed, and his shit is primo quality! So I see the threads about a month old but I talked to jamco and they told me I can use their 3"/4" drop kit with no clearance issues whatsoever
Do a big HAMB search before you order from any company. Some deliver on their products better than others.
