Don't get me wrong, I'm jealous, I'd love to have a steel Willys! I even mentioned that the info I have read, the front blocks are O.K. Looks like you have already made a new bed for it as well. I was just stating a couple opinions not knocking you. I'm glad you plan to paint it and level off the stance a bit. How about some details on how you built the bed?
Thanks guys its been a long time in the process and its finally happening. Richard the bed is made from .065 aluminum sheet metal and has a long way to go but I'm not gonna put a floor in it so it needs a lot of structure to be added but in due time I'm hoping to have it at least move under its own power in the next couple weeks I can't wait to see this blower drive work Chrome don't get ya home
Some seriously killer cars on this thread. You guys are making me jealous! Here's a quick and dirty shot of the 6-71 I pulled off a cement truck out in the bush 75 miles south of the arctic circle. It's destined for a fenderless Altered-style model A coupe with a stroked early Hemi and a HydroStick. I finally got it home tonight, and might get a chance to tear into it later this week. Scott Posted using the Full Custom H.A.M.B. App!
I was planning on putting some gas in,then turning the key once I get all the parts put together between te tires, and the part that holds up the paint.... Posted using the Full Custom H.A.M.B. App!
I was just kidding around Steve. Did you mean is it going to be a street car or a drag car?If so,the answer is both.Basically a race car with license plates in it, strictly for Saturday night silly was and occasional nostalgia drag action. Posted using the Full Custom H.A.M.B. App!
Hahahaha that's just damn funny I like it anyways here is a 4-71 I picked up today it's good and greasy just like yours Chrome don't get ya home
DOH, I meant how are you going to drive the blower? As in what are you going to use for a blower drive? LOL
That's what happens when I don't get enough sleep Steve...lol! At one point I thought I would have enough engine setback to run a Potvin drive setup and a trunk mounted radiator (you don't see a Potvin-blown car on Main Street every day!),but I also really dig the belt whine, and having something sticking through the hood (or in this case, the cowl),so I have been looking at retro Weiand drive kits, but for a snout and a tensioner they're about $1800 out of Jeg's....I was hoping somebody else would carry this stuff a bit cheaper,or that I could piece together some older used stuff to make up a decent, reliable, functioning drive setup that looks like it belongs on a car that looks like it belongs in '64 or '65....we'll see I guess. Holy hell Rich! Who's 'liner is powered by that unholy monstrosity? That looks like a pants-shittin' good time when you jam your foot down on the loud pedal! Scott Posted using the Full Custom H.A.M.B. App!
It might not be a traditional blower, but there is nothing more traditional than a LSR streamliner. And that blower is just plain badass scary overkill......which makes it juuuuuuuuust right in my book! Posted using the Full Custom H.A.M.B. App!
If Power parking is more important to someone than horse power, maybe it's ugly. That's Bob Daltons 7800 liner. Bob invited me to help out with the start line procedure this year. And I had fun doing it. Bob runs 60psi boost on a 498 KB. on alcohol. First full pass he went 369 in the last mile with a 382 exit. Which turned out to be his best pass as the car wouldn't hook up. On his last pass he had gained 22 mph in the 4 and was showing 392mph on the logger when he went off course. Wait till next year.
About the quality of the castings themselves,or just the same stuff about 1/2" drive setups and belt durability issues? Posted using the Full Custom H.A.M.B. App!
The swing arm and getting it setup. The guy that built my blower was messing with one for weeks trying to make it good. Another person got one and said it looked ok, seemed cheaply done vs. looking at a good old one...think there's a setup on epay now...the real deal one.
I'm almost glad you gave me a heads up on that PBR.....I was having a hard time coming to terms with the price tag on that shit anyway. If I would have paid $1800 for a steaming pile of poop I would have blown a frickin' gasket! Scott Posted using the Full Custom H.A.M.B. App!
That looks freakin' great! Are you workin the bugs out of it so far...? Posted using the Full Custom H.A.M.B. App!
Thanks Yea the throttle is heavy with a return spring on each carb but I am getting the hang of it HaHa. Fun to drive so far it is a 4 speed with 3.50 gears in a nine inch. Its a hand full, Had a death wobble but I dialed in some more caster and fixed that. Andy
Here's mine, yeah, i didn't fool around, I took the whole engine for my project. 6v53T, notice the nice big turbo on top!
In my 38 coupe. I didn't want to cut any holes for it. I had to fab new mounts and moved the rad forward 3/8"..... 600cfm's, it's 15% under driven, has 7:1 comp mated to a 700r4. I can cruise 75 at 2200 rpm. It worked out better than I expected.
I've had this 6v71 kicking around for a few years, just wish I had a lathe and I'd set to making some sort of drive system and all for it, be an interesting challenge. One of these days.....
