<--------I always thought that the '54 Desoto grille (in my '53 Mainline) worked well, but unfortunately they've become quite pricey and hard to find over the years.
This is a pic off anther thread showing a 54 Desoto grill in a 53 Ford. I am building a 53 Ford convertible and will be using this setup. It looks great, so I hope the owner of this car does not mind me posting this pic.
A kid in high school way back when had one with a 54 Chevy grille in it and I think that was about the best looking one I have seen.
Here is mine. 53 ford bar with 51 52 ford truck teeth. Going to be chromed soon. Posted using the Full Custom H.A.M.B. App!
Absolutely, I had a 54 years ago into which I put a 54 Desoto grille, that was the tits. Second choice would be a 55 Desoto grille.
I'm running a '55 desoto grille in a frenched shell. Stock meteor grills are some of my favorites, and they're bolt-ins. I wanted a chevy grill for the longest time. I'm pretty happy with my desoto grille. I'd rather have a '54 desoto grille to match my olds headlights, but I wasn't thinking when I passed on a '54 desoto grille at the hcpu about six years ago.
For a really EZ swap that was popular "back in the day" the '55 Plymouth grille is almost a bolt-in and fits the Fords contours great.Member dragonknucks may have one for sale, check the classifieds. Also the 1955 Ford is a good fit.
I kind of like the stock grill for 53. 52 & 54 not as much Posted using the Full Custom H.A.M.B. App!
I agree I think the '53 grille looked the best, although I don't mind the 52 or 54 grilles either. I've thought about putting a '53 grille in my '54 Mainline. But those desoto grilles look damn good too. Hmmm
I just did something simple on my '54 the upper bar and bullet chrome is great the lower bar was faded so I painted it Satin Black and masked off the little spears to give it a "floating" illusion.
A fellow club member had this car and I think the grill was out of a mid 50's Dodge ..... (Taken with my first digital camera - 1/3 MP)
This morning on another thread I saw a photo of this car and thought it had a cool looking grill ..... May be a little hard to find one though because it's a Canadian Ford (Meteor). I can also visualize a shortened one with bullets on the ends in a chopped Merc and think it would look great.
Hey Jeff, I have been looking for those all summer and can't find them. A pair on eBay for $250 but I thought it was to much. 55 was the only year ford made those parking lights. Going to CHRR this weekend maybe I can find a pair in Bako.
