The unit I have my eye on is an ancient Cragar with three V belts.

I don't have a problem with the windshield height for your '60s look. The important thing is that is lays back at a nice angle. And it does.

Show your lady one of those pictures of the shifter on my roadster. Maybe she will see the light.

And I'm just kidding about my health. I was able to start driving again today. I would say I am about 80 to 90 percent back to normal. Whatever that is for me.

  4. I love this bucket!!
The only thing I would change is to chop the windshield. I'm not too sure I would paint it!
The stance is just right, everything about the car yells HOT ROD!!

Well Chip there is opposing views in just two posts. Other than windshield height though Mike and I agree.

  7. Paint ?PAINT? PAINT? what the hell you gonna paint it for???
You will just have to wash and wax it instead of driving it. Waste of time in my book.

I have an opinion on this. Not sure if I'm right. Here again Von Franko might be better to ask but I can't believe Norm put anything on that car that didn't have a function. I think that the windshield posts that Valley Custom built just weren't very strong and they probably flexed so the fix was to put the support rods on. After that everybody just added them for "the look" which wasn't bad look. Norm actually had some small support rods from the radiator to the frame on the Kookie Kar.

Actually the radiator on my roadster vibrates around some but I just drill out the pop rivets on the brackets and replace them every few years.

I have done that all my life!! I would really like to have something nice for a change. Besides, brown is just not my color!

That was actually part of the reason I did the little cross member for my radiator. Everyone of these I have set up I have watched the radiator bounce around as you go down the road. I have just driven mine up and down the street at this point and I don't see the bounce house stuff going on. I will soon add some Hood rods from the fire wall to the radiator as the bracket is there and I might as well use them. Those are always tricky to get at the right angle too for some reason.

Go to page 35 on this thread to see another bucket with windshield supports.

I don't exactly know when Norm put them on but that is the only explanation I can come up with. If you have a better one let's hear it.

As long as the motor has enough ass to back it up, yellow would be my choice as well.

That's the catch though, (IMO) a car has to be fast to be painted a fruity color like yellow, pink, purple, aquamarine, orange, neon green, etc.

All my race cars are yellow.

My daily driver is gray. ;)

'63 Sport coupe, one of my favorite cars. Yummm! And it has the PERFECT wheels on it. Is it a stick? And a circa '63 T-bucket without paint??? Ugh! Some cars might be able to carry off primer, but an early sixties themed T-bucket?? NO WAY IN HELL. Needs something bright, shiny, sparkly and flashy.

Without a doubt. That 2000 to present, "primer as a finish" crap can just barely be validated, but there's NO WAY it can slide on an early sixties T Bucket.

Now, some red or blue BIG FLAKE would look killer! Before my trans went out last year, that money was going to go for a red BIG FLAKE paint job. If I can't have it, it would be nice to see one done.:D

Or a yellow-gold flake with dark candy green fogging so that it just barely leaves a little of yellow-gold exposed in the middle of the panels, or Naples Orange. Or a copper to orange fade over gold flake, or candy maroon, or...man, I could go on like this all day...:D

But flat black?? Man, half the fun of building a sixties T-bucket is the excuse for wild-ass paint!

I have the Hot Rod feature on the DeBenidictus car, I should post it. Its been listed in a couple of sources as being Omaha Orange, and that seems right.

So, I got insured up today, hung the glass in the windshield, and tied up some other small loose ends. I started actually driving it around the neighborhood and enjoying it a bit. Other than a some unhappiness right off idle it runs very well and is super comfortable to drive. After driving it down the street first thing his morning, it felt just a bit squirrely, so I turned around and headed back to the drive way... Never trust the P.O.! The bolts that attach the radius rods to the frame were finger tight, as was the pitman arm! Scary stuff, so an hour or two was spent tightening anything with threads that could be tightened. Much better!

A temporary change that went into effect today was the removal of my Americans and slicks on the back. I found a separation in the left rear tread that was roughly the size of Rhode Island. In a pinch, my ultra rare pair of 16X6" Halibrand no hole and dirt track tires will just have to do for a bit! I am seriously considering restudding my front drums back to 5 on 5 1/2" and running the matching fronts for the next couple of weeks. Funny thing though, look at how much putting a really tall rear tire changed the proportions of the car. The rake is a bit more extreme, but to my eye the larger rear wheel has the effect of shrinking the whole car down a bit. Is it just me?

    I LIKE the new wheels!!!

  28. That T looks absolutely cool with both wheels but have to agree, the tall tyres appear to shorten the car up some what. What is the diff gear ratio as with those taller tyres it should have excellent long legs out on the freeway I would think. Can you take a measurement for me please, I'm interested in the length of your body along the floor from the inside of the firewall to the back of the body taken roughly along the chassis rail. I would like to see a photo of you sitting in it now with the screen on from the side as I do believe and inch or two may be able to be lost from the height now. Close call with all the finger tight bolts and nuts, a good lesson for everybody to take note of before jumping into a new build and blasting off down the road, check, check.

Would never have thought that the tire size would make that much difference in looks. I have to agree with you. Gives car a totally different look and attitude.

  30. Oh forgot to ask too, I am having House of Colour Tangerine with a medium flake with maybe some purple lace work panels and white pinstripe out line on my T as the flat black was just a covering until I had the niggles sorted and put a few miles on it. So I too would be keen to see the article on the orange T at the top of this page please.
